  • Supplies, Supplies, Supplies

    Funded May 7, 2015

The students were so thankful for the resources we received. There was no longer the complaint that they didn't have a pencil to use that day or that we were soon out of paper again. They were excited to use the new supplies that were just for them.

The students have been using the resources for their independent writing and journal writing. It gives them the opportunity to continue enjoying the freedom of writing.

Having the abundance of supplies, took away the stress of finding supplies for the students to use. They came in everyday and were able to just focus on their writing. This allowed students to increase the amount of writing they would normally do. Some students then used the material to create art that went along with their writing. It added another element that allowed students to demonstrate their knowledge.”

    With gratitude,

  • Listening to Stories

    Funded Dec 18, 2014

Thank you so much for donating towards our project. The students love the headphones. Everytime they are on the laptops for reading or math practice, they ask to use their headphones. Reading levels of almost every student has gone up at least two levels, because they are now able to hear the stories to get practice and build their comprehension. Without much time in the schedule to teach phonics, the students get to listen to phonics programs on the laptops while they are also doing their independent reading. The students are very thankful.”

    With gratitude,

  • It's Never Too Early for Mentoring

    Funded Oct 30, 2009

I want to thank you greatly for your donation to my mentoring program through the Donors Choose Organization. We received all of the items in a timely manner and made use of them immediately. We hope to keep them in a good condition so that they can be used for years to come.

The art supplies, games and sporting equipment received because of your donation has been used at our Saturday Mentoring Program. The mentors use these supplies as an opportunity to bond with the students and form friendships. Having these and sporting activities has taught many of the students about teamwork and proper social skills. They enjoy the new equipment and look forward to see how they will be used in each mentoring session. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ogarro

All students need positive mentors in their lives. The Saturday Mentoring Program is a program that takes place one Saturday a month. Mentors and students meet at the school for three hours of fun and educational activities followed by lunch. The overall objective of the program is to foster meaningful, lasting relationships between students and mentors and to provide the students with fun, stimulating, team-oriented activities at a time when they would normally be watching TV or playing video games – probably alone. Each Saturday is divided up into three “stations” or time blocks, roughly categorized as “arts & crafts,” “educational,” and “athletic.” For example some of the projects include making holiday cards for individuals in the armed forces, playing a U.S. Presidents Jeopardy-type games (in honor of Presidents Day), and playing indoor kickball.
