Prepared for Preschool Backpacks
Funded Dec 31, 2020Seeing the look of excitement on a child's face is nothing short of amazing. It was so heart warming to see how excited they were to be able to continue their learning at home. The students were almost as excited as I was upon receiving the backpacks. The materials that you so kindly donated to funding have helped out tremendously. It has provided children with the learn materials to support their learning at home. During times when school was closed and learning was delivered through an alternative method of instruction, our children did not miss a learning opportunity.
The backpacks already contain math/manipulatives, nursery rhymes, physical activity ball, and alphabet cards. My next step would be to continue to build on these skills by adding more materials so that they have a variety of materials to work on those needed skills.”

Funded Oct 19, 2020Trying to describe the excitement I felt when receiving the materials due to your generous donations, is just as indescribable as it is to describe my students reactions when they first saw the materials. Even the most quiet and reserved students I have were overjoyed and jumping for joy, literally. This was definitely a cause for celebration. The books are used during read aloud as well as morning meetings to practice listening skills, comprehension skills, introduce new concepts, and teach social emotional lessons and/or skills. The books have assisted in providing colorful characters that experience some of the same emotions and feelings that my students experience daily or at some point in their little lives. Thus, providing an opportunity to teach those social skills needed for development.
The letter legos are like gold. There are a multitude of benefits that my students have acquired with having the materials in my classroom. The benefits include: an increase in fine motor skills, increase in muscle control and pressure awareness, increased social skills, gained persistence, creativity building, increased letter recognition, and gained a sense of accomplishment. The legos have been used during free play exploration, small group time, and during language and literacy to teach letter recognition, blending, and letter sounds. It is with great pleasure that I thank everyone for contributing to the increased educational, social emotional, and physical growth of my students. I've witnessed a growth in number of students that have gained more fine motor control and can now write the letters especially those in their names, an increase in the number of letters recognized by individual students, an increase in the assessment scores of students that have used the legos to learn to blend, as well as acquired social skills through interactions with others while utilizing the books and legos. Utilizing the legos has taught them to be persistent. If their tower falls over, its ok. They have the strength, skills, and confidence to build it again, and better. For these facts alone, I am forever grateful.
Next steps for me and my students include to teach other concepts with the legos and books. Next steps include using the legos to learn letter sounds. There are a multitude of benefits of book and legos. I want to continue to increase their growth along their educational journey with me in my preschool classroom. I want to utilize those resources afforded to me and make the most if what I have been blessed with.”
