The Classroom Library will provide this year's students, and many more, with access to grade-level, high-interest books to enhance their experience in the Independent Reading Project. When students see the incredible selection of books available to them in the classroom library, they will be motivated to freely choose a book and share the experience with their peers. Students are motivated to read when they have the choice of what they want to read, and providing a classroom library full of high-interest books will increase the opportunities for students to take part in the Independent Reading Program. This program encourages students to read many books throughout the year, discuss their reading with their peers, and write reflections on their experience reading. Middle school is a critical time in student's lives, and many studies show that this is the time when students stop reading independently, so the program is a way to encourage lifelong independent reading.
