Everyone has a high school dissection story. The purpose of this project is to give my students their own story. The frog dissection is a culminating project for these students in their understanding of the principles of life. My biology students learn how organisms maintain life. They will use these frogs and frog parts to articulate how the frog systems maintained homeostasis. This dissection is an opportunity for these students to take the words, notes, and pictures and make it real. Most of my students have never completed a dissection. Beyond the understanding of how life systems work together, the students are excited to show how they work together in a classroom. The chance to show that they are responsible and capable makes a simple dissection into a memorable life event.
