Funded Oct 21, 2021When I first saw that people had given to my project, I could not help but squeal with joy. I was excited for my students that they would have the opportunity to read more culturally relevant novels and books that spark their love for reading. It is with great gratitude and appreciation that I submit this impact letter to you for your kindness and willingness to donate to my project.
"Wonder" was a big hit with most if not all of my kids too. During our novel study, we held a lot of classroom discussions about the power of choosing to be kind, empathy and creating kinder humans in a world that can be cruel. We held peer shout outs every day and the more we read the more empathetic my students became. A favorite quote from the book that my students repeatedly quote is, "I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives. "
Having access to multicultural literature has empowered my students to have positive attitudes towards diversity and tolerance, and that it is okay for others to be different from what they are used to! That is priceless in the world we live in today. They will one day be respectful and character minded citizens of this world, that have empathy and tolerance for all people. "When given the choice between being right and being kind. Choose kind."”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hurtado
