Many middle school-age kids don't like to read and it is difficult enough as a teacher to instill the love of reading at our normal student desks and chairs. Help my students find a comfy place to "chill" and discover a new book. My English learners prefer books written in poetry. With not as many words on each page, it is less intimidating for them to tackle meaning-making. Add with a comfortable place to sit for a while, like the balance and wobble chairs, it is easier to lose themselves in reading. The BEST way to learn English, improve vocabulary and writing is to read a book.
