  • Readers Today, LEADERS Tomorrow!

    Funded Nov 4, 2016

Thank you all SO much for supporting my third grade students with these leveled texts! Now, my partner and I have a full set of leveled readers to teach our students reading strategies that will help them grow to become better, stronger readers. We could not have done this without your support, so thank you from myself, my teammate, and over 100 total students that will benefit from these books!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clark

  • A Book A Day Keeps Illiteracy Away!

    Funded Oct 7, 2016

I just wanted to thank everyone for their generous contributions and support to my third grade students. I am so happy to share these new books with them. I know they are going to be excited to read during our school's RAM (Readers Achieve More) time at the end of the day, as well as during their independent reading during the day.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Clark

My students need a wide variety of high-interest books to facilitate AND encourage their love for reading. This project encompasses a range of leveled texts, both fiction and nonfiction, to capture the students' attention. These books will be used for a variety of purposes: 1.) Whole group read alouds: I will model what fluent readers sound like and what strategies good readers use when they're reading to themselves. 2.) Small group reading: Within the class, students are placed in needs-based groups where they practice reading texts on their reading level, whether that is K or 5th. 3.) Individual reading texts: During our school's RAM ("Readers Achieve More") time, our students silently read a book of their CHOICE. This may be on the level, easier, or harder. It's their CHOICE. Allowing students to choose what they read is a powerful motivator for students learning to read. When children are interested and invested in what they are reading, their overall comprehension increases.
