  • More Garbage and...Tuners? Yes!

    Funded Dec 7, 2018

My students and I thank you so much! We just started using the tuners yesterday I am allowing the students to take some ownership in their ear training and their tuning processes. The goal is that they learn to tune themselves and hear the difference between in and out of tune and then we will apply it to the group tuning exercises we will begin!

The garbage cans and drumming will continue to be successful and now we have the correct amount of drums (garbage cans!) so now everybody can play as we prepare for our show in January!

    Again, thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jung

  • They Won't Sound Like Garbage, I Promise!

    Funded Nov 15, 2018

I want to say thank you so much. The kids were a little wary about playing on garbage cans but once I handed out the music and started to practice playing and all the movements they fell in love with it. They want to do all these things now with them like make logos and spray paint their drums. They even started getting overprotective about their specific cans and NOBODY else can touch it. It just shows that a little generosity (and I guess some moolah) can go a long way to make a kid excited about learning and music. Again thank you so much.”

  • Help Us Repair Our Instruments

    Funded Nov 2, 2018

Thank you all again so much for donating! This repair kit is the end all be all of quick fixes. Often times during class, we as music educators don't get a chance to fix things the right way or even right away. With self adhesive pads and cork as wells the miniature tools necessary to apply them in, this kit makes this job so much easier and accessible. The kit is so easy that some of my students will begin learning how to repair their own instruments and be able become better leaders within the ensemble by doing so. So again, thank you all for your generosity!”

    Mr. Jung

  • New Stands for a New School

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

As a percussionist myself it was disheartening to see the terrible shape the instruments were in when I got here, specifically the drums. Most of the children, who are taller than me by the way, were stretching downward and in awkward positions because of how low the stands were. Those stands were made for drum sets and sitting, but concert percussion requires standing and it resulted in lack of excitement for the instruments as well as a worse sound due to the physical difficulties. So let me thank you very much donors, for all your generosity in making my students' make music a littler easier! Again, thank you.”

  • We are Strapped for Equipment!

    Funded Sep 18, 2018

First of all, let me say thank you for helping me get this project funded so quickly. Moving to a new school is difficult and definitely not knowing what equipment you are working with ahead of time is difficult. This small amount of equipment made a whole section of instruments playable again! Also, the speed in which the funding was accepted and the materials were received made the beginning of the school year that much easier. So again, with all my heart thank you for helping me out in my new position, for giving my students equipment they need, and making this program that much better!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jung

  • New Year, No Supplies PART 3

    Funded Dec 27, 2017

Thank you so much for all of your generosity! This project marks the 1st year I have been able to raise over $4000 through Donorschoose and with all the help that all of you gave. Music is my life, work, and hobby. It takes up all my life and unfortunately, it is one of the moist expensive hobbies out there! All these little items you all helped purchase make working with the kids and playing these instruments much easier.

The corks for the various woodwind instruments allow the mouthpieces to fit on the instruments properly and make them able to be played! The mixer and splitter allows me to use less equipment, amplification, and wires which gives me more time to focus on the music and less on setting up and taking down equipment. Lastly, he cymbals and stands were things that needed replacing.

I just want to thank you all again for your time, effort, and monetary assistance. You have really made a difference. Thank you.”

    Mr. Jung

  • New Year; No Supplies PART 2!!

    Funded Oct 11, 2017

Thank you all so much who donated money. Your assistance helps more than you realize. So far, with your generosity on the last two projects, we have raised over $2000!

My students are very excited to see these materials. With funding cut again this year it is harder to get instruments for every level and this is doing just that. We need nice new working instruments and specialized reeds to help the advanced players learn even better than they did before. These will keep their interest up and hopefully encourage a life-long appreciation and love of music. The cleaning supplies are even better because it keeps everybody hygienic and safe.

For those advanced students we are working after school to get ready for our winter festival. This will involve a number of different performances across 3 days with 6 different musical ensembles and possible trips away from school into Manhattan to perform.

    Thank you so much again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jung

  • New Year, No Supplies!

    Funded Sep 27, 2017

Thank you all so much for your time and generosity. This project was funded faster than any project I have ever started; under 1 week!! We have already received the materials and been able to begin using them.

The students really appreciate the help because having the working instruments and guitar supplies really make playing a lot easier. The students work so hard with what we have but duct tape really can't fix everything, so this addition to the inventory is a huge help.

Again, I can't thank you enough. I have already started the 2nd version of the project with all new materials and I hope that if you have any friends or family that will donate, please send them here. Thanks again!”

  • Saving the Band!!!

    Funded Nov 8, 2016

    Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your donations! I am very excited to use the new resources because they fill a need we have in the band for very specific instruments. The tuba stand especially will allow students who are excited to use the tuba, but who are simply too small to play it, actually have a chance to use it. The percussion students were very excited when they saw the mallet pack because mallets in general get used so often that they just don't last. Letting kids use brand new equipment and instruments make them more excited to learn and actually participate!

The next projects I have for my classroom actually involve donors choose again. One project I am planning involves the use of GoPro equipment where I can create videos of the students and even the students themselves can actually create some. The other project is to just get more instruments into the room. The more quality instruments we have here the more likely the children are to succeed!

Again, thank you all for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jung

  • Instruments for Our Pep Band!

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you so much for donating for our cause. Our goal has actually been reached; the pep band has been created. With these instruments we have been able to add the students to the already popular drumline and play at the basketball tournaments. Even though our teams only made it to the semi-finals the band has become super popular! We have now been asked to play at some of the baseball and softball games because we sounded so good. I was even allowed to lead one song, but unfortunately I had to put my new trumpet down to do it.

The instruments are amazing. I never would have thought that plastic instruments could sound like that. They are really durable and tough so hopefully they won't break like some of the older instruments. I wish they made a plastic saxophone, I think that would be fun. My friends and I don't really like the plastic mouthpieces but the action on the instruments feel almost the same.

In conclusion, thank you again for helping us get these instruments. I am very excited to continue to use them and truly create a great pep band!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Jung

When I was a kid, I never worried about breaking anything because I believed in the dogma: "Duct Tape can Fix EVERYTHING!" How things have changed. I now am a high school band director in a high-need school with a large number of instruments in need of some serious care.
