There are multiple benefits to students being able to use flexible seating, such as the wobble chairs and cushions that I would like to purchase. There is research that states they benefit a child’s physical health, which in turn benefits a child’s mental health. Another important factor is student comfort. My students are 4, 5, and 6 years old. An ordinary chair can be uncomfortable for them to learn in. Learning in a chair where you are able to wiggle, rock and bounce is so much more fun and students are able to focus better. Students that can focus are less restless and perform higher academically. Alternative seating options have also been known to increase student’s participation and behavior. These wiggle chairs and cushions will also have an impact on special needs students. This type of stimulation can help all students focus, but especially those with ADHD, ADD, and ASD.
