I am an itinerant theater teacher in a large urban school district. I see over 675 students in a week, at ten different schools. I see them once a week for 18 weeks. But I know my kids. They are kindergarten through sixth grade, from scores of different cultures and every level of the economic ladder. My students and I learn through theater. We imagine we are on a wagon train west, or a scientific exploration to the Brazilian rain forest, or a march for freedom with Dr. Martin Luther King or maybe a flight to the moon or a ball at the palace of Cinderella. They thrill to the adventure, and create lives beyond their own.
