  • Art Throughout the Day

    Funded Jan 24, 2020

My students and I love the materials that were so generously donated to us. We especially love the Kwik Stik Tempera Painters that we received. The colors are so bright. No matter their fine motor abilities all my students were able to handle easily handle the tempera sticks . My students beg to use them on a daily basis.

The children were so excited when they saw what was in the box. They asked me right away if they could paint. They were able to use most of their senses when they started to finger paint. I loved that they were having fun as well as learning about mixing colors.

The next science project that my students will have will be learning about insects. All the materials that were donated will be used for this project, from drawing and painting their favorite insect , to using the pompoms to create the parts of an insect.

    Thank you again .”

  • Pre-K Fine Motor Supplies

    Funded Dec 17, 2019

My students were so excited when the boxes arrived . The children gathered around my table to see what was in the them. They especially loved seeing the peg boards, pegs and the Gum ball grab . They are always asking to work with these items during center time.

The month of January meant reading many books on snowmen. We decided to make drawings of snowmen and used the watercolors to decorate their creations. February kept us very busy making Valentines for our parents. We of course use the crayons and pencils as well as the watercolors to decorate them. March projects will include shamrocks ,weather and leprechauns.I love the fact that my students are practicing their fine motor skills while having a great deal of fun.

Thank you again for your generous gift.”

  • Building Fine Motor Muscles for Pre-K

    Funded Oct 31, 2019

My students were so excited when the boxes arrived from the office. They could not wait for me to open the packages that afternoon. When one of my boys began to make shapes with the play dough cookie cutters he exclaimed, "Boy this is so much fun!"

The Math Nuts and Bolts sets are very useful. My students are able to work with their math objectives: counting, sorting and patterning, while practicing their fine motor skills. They enjoy working with the Learning Letters Activity Centers which helps them recognize the letters of the alphabet.

Another way to combine fine motor skills with math and language arts objectives is for me to make patterns of numerals and letters to use with the peg light board.

All the items that you obtained for my students make teaching the objectives and working on fine motor skills FUN. I am very grateful for your generosity. Thank you again.”

  • Pre-k Genius Needed

    Funded Aug 28, 2019

I want to thank you for your generous donations. My students were so excited to see what was inside the Osmo box. They could not wait for me to begin using the games at a center. All the students want to work at making the alphabets with the character on the computer. I was very impressed that one of my students with a very short attention span, enjoyed working with the curves and the sticks. He really put forth a effort trying to copy the alphabet and the object that went along with the letter. I am hoping that this will help my students become very familiar with the alphabet letters.Thank you again for your help.”

  • Charging for Pre-K

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

My students were so excited when they saw the magnetic pattern blocks and the Translucent Imagination Builders. They love to work with the blocks and builders every day. They are able to work with the pattern blocks and builders on the carpet as well as the light table. My students are using their creativity and are problem solving on a daily basis.

The charging center is so helpful since it keeps my Ipads fully charged. I was able to add an Ipad to our centers because of the protective Ipad case. My students are able to use the ipads for math and language art programs without having to wait for the Ipads to be charged. The Ipad center is one of the most popular workstations that my students enjoy.

Thank you so much for your help and generosity. My students will be learning while having a great deal of fun.”

  • Steam Through Light

    Funded Jan 15, 2019

I would like to thank you so much for your generosity. Prior to this year the light box was seldom used. The light table has become one of the most favorite centers for my students. I continuously hear the phrases "Yea! I get to work at the light table"! "Ms. Weeks, I love going to the light center!"

The light table manipulatives are used by my students to practice many of our objectives. Math objectives, such as counting, patterning, addition and subtraction are reviewed. In language arts, sight words, cvc words as well as alphabet recognition are also practiced. The girls as well as the boys are also building with the pattern blocks and magnatiles. They are using their problem solving skills to make structures that are three dimensional. The students just love seeing the light come through the jeweled colors of the manipulatives.

The Ipad has also been used as a daily center. My students are able to work with programs such as Reasoning Minds and Teach Your Monster To Read. These programs enable me to differentiate and meet the needs of each of my students.

I would like again to thank the donors who have so generously donated to my project. My students are having fun and learning at the same time! This will influence how my students feel about math and technology for years to come. Thank you again.”

  • Beebotting Through Stories

    Funded Jul 16, 2018

I would like to thank the generous donors who made this project possible. My students have loved working with the bee bots. We began using our iPad to take pictures of our self portraits. These were then printed and placed under a clear mat. Our first mission was to learn how to operate the little bee. They loved calculating how many squares they needed to reach the portrait of the name they had pulled out. They had so much fun learning the names of their fellow classmates. We then moved on to identifying beginning sounds and numerals. The students were very exciting about working out the system of having the little bee moved. I loved the fact that even the quietest and shyest students were eager to participate in using the bee bots. They were learning how to code while having a great deal of fun. I loved the fact that we can use this little bee throughout the day. I want to thank you again for all your help and support . It truly is greatly appreciated.”

  • Full STEAM Ahead with Pre-K

    Funded Dec 17, 2017

I really would like to thank the generous donors who gave to my project. I am now able to have a stem workstation center. My students were super excited and happy when they saw the "toys" arrive from Amazon. They wanted to use the materials right away.

The boys and girls really enjoyed working at making cities using the Young Architects Design Blocks. I overheard a child say "Wow look at my tower!" It was one of their favorite things to work with. The Design and Build Engineering Centers at first were a bit channeling for my students. While trying to build a bridge I heard " I can't make it, I don't know how." Later however, I saw how they worked together and made a bridge. Having the children draw what they have accomplished has helped them be more reflective in what they are creating.

A future project will be predicting and seeing the results of heat being applied to crayon shavings made from the crayon sharpener.

I really would like to give my thanks again for supplying me with the stem items. These activities, through play will help instill a strong foundation and influence future feelings about math and science in my students.

    Thank you again.”

  • Ipads For A Pre-k Osmo Center

    Funded Nov 20, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous gift. The iPads that I was able to purchase have enabled me to have a designated center of Osmo. My students have really enjoyed using the iPads with this program. The Osmo program exercises help the students to hone their word building, language development, and problem solving skills. Osmo also has a game called MASTERPIECE that my students use to trace pictures of varying difficulty, which aids development of their fine motor skills. It can also be used for creative writing, and to reinforce beginning sounds.

One student is especially happy and excited using the WORD component of Osmo. Some of the exclamations I heard while he was working were "I just tried it. It is not a Z." "What do you think?" "Ms. Weeks, We did this!" "I did this!" "You are winning so far." "OH YEAH!" This child until now has shown very little interest in the alphabet. While playing with WORD he was super excited when putting different letters under the mirror. I know with time this center will help him recognize the letters of the alphabet and their sounds.

Thank you again for your generous help. I will be using these valuable teaching tools for many years to come.”

  • Pre-Kinders Need Osmos Too!

    Funded Aug 19, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students have really enjoyed having the daily use of interacting with the Osmo kits on a regular basis.

I am able to use these kits throughout the day. During the Language Art block the students are able to practice initial sound identification as well as being exposed to new vocabulary. I love hearing the children say out loud "I found the C" " I found two letters" ,"Ms. Weeks I found the T"

When they work with the Numbers game they are practicing number combinations and addition while having fun. The Tangram game is helping them problem solve. I have heard them shouting "I did it ! I did a good job. YEA!!!

One of the many benefits of using the Osmo kits is the ability to have the children work either individually or with a partner. These hands-on activities are perfect for my pre-k students. The kits are geared for many levels of difficulty so that all my students can participate in playing the games. I will be able to use these kits throughout the school year.

Thank you again for helping my students reach their goals.”

My school is located in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. The students must be in a lower income bracket to qualify for per-k. Many of their parents are either from Hispanic countries or are first generation Americans. My four and five years old come eager and ready to learn about the world around them. They especially love learning through play.
