Chromebooks for Core
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity in contributing to our classroom! It has been incredibly transformational to have Chromebooks in our classroom. With the eight that you donated, I was able to fill up a cart with another teacher and we have shared the cart between us these past two months. Before that, I only had 10 Chromebooks so having access to a cart with a class set of Chromebooks has allowed my students to engage with technology more often and better develop digital literacy. We were able to type our last essays in class and used various functions on Google docs to aid in the revision process. It was really helpful for my students to start and end their essays on Google docs (rather than binder paper), as this is more similar to the writing process they will be experiencing in high school next year.
I also teach history, and being able to incorporate technology has made my lessons more engaging and allowed students to be more in charge of their learning. They have done a variety of activities on the Chromebooks such as playing Quizizz games, watching Edpuzzle videos, reading Newsela articles, and even a "Choose Your Own Adventure" about the Civil War!
All of this would not be possible without having easier access to Chromebooks, so thank you again for your donation! It has made a big difference for my students and my teaching, and I am so grateful!”

Funded Oct 3, 2017Having a personal reading book is crucial in my class so that students can grow their reading skills in books they enjoy. While some students bring books from home or the local library, I have many other students who prefer to read books from my classroom library. It has been wonderful to expand my library with your generosity!
Some skills that I have been introducing this year are making inferences, picking powerful lines, writing long, and noticing how the character is feeling. I introduce each skill in a shared text that we as a class read together and become familiar with, then students practice the skill to gain mastery by trying it out in their own personal books. I find that this method helps to give students' ownership of the skills and allows them to practice the skills with a story that they are interested in reading!
Each Friday, we have SSR (Sustained Silent Reading) time, and students read a book of their choice. I also meet with students each quarter to have a "Book Talk" where they tell me about their story and answer high-level reading questions using the skills they've learned this year and in prior years. Both of these aspects have helped to cultivate positivity towards reading in my classroom, but having a solid classroom library is the foundation for this! Thank you again for your support of reading in my classroom by donating to grow my classroom library. I appreciate it greatly!”

Mrs. Martin
Classroom Chromebooks for Literature and History
Funded Mar 29, 2017Having Chromebooks in the classroom has been a wonderful resource to my students. While the school has technology, it is shared among teachers and not always accessible on a daily basis. With Chromebooks in my classroom, I can design lessons utilizing technology and know that I will definitely have the resources for students to participate in the lesson.
This integration of technology increases student engagement and also allows me to gather feedback more effectively to gauge my students' progress towards our learning goals. Another benefit of having Chromebooks is for students who benefit from typing assignments rather than writing them. This works especially well for certain students, and I feel great knowing that I can support them in this way because I have Chromebooks available.
Overall, I have witnessed excitement from my students as they engage in learning on the Chromebooks. Personally, I enjoy being able to more easily integrate technology into lessons and being able to count on having Chromebooks available. Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! It is much appreciated!”

Funded Feb 5, 2017Having Chromebooks in the classroom has been so helpful for my students' learning! Chromebooks provide the opportunity for students to research, work on web-based assignments, and watch videos to better understand content. In addition, during Access as well as work time in my classes, students are able to work on homework, such as Newsela, Membean, projects, or typed papers.
Chromebooks have been especially useful for days in which I teach through stations. Using stations is helpful, as it gives students different activities to work on throughout the period and reinforces learning through practice. With the Chromebooks, I can always plan at least one technology-based station, which is a highlight for students.
Overall, having Chromebooks for my students to use has been so helpful! Thank you to the donors for your generosity and for caring about my students!”
