My students need to improve their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and stamina in reading grade level texts. It affects their math in dealing with word problems and in their writing when they are required to explain their thoughts. By exposing the students to a wide variety of reading materials the students will be able to build their vocabulary and gain knowledge of different situations that word problems are often using to put the math into a real world context. We would like to start a reading campaign at this school to meet these goals. By having an additional library in my room, the students will be able to see the importance of reading while gaining knowledge that will help them decode, understand, and process challenging word problems. By improving these skills now in middle school level, the students will be able to be college ready when they graduate.
