Every morning I welcome Kindergartners from an inner-city, lower-income neighborhood to my classroom. Those students are eager to learn, but don't always have the materials at home that they need to practice reading. We have created a take-home reading system in which every kindergartner checks out books that are at his/her reading level, proudly taking home a bag of books to read with his/her family. Most of the books have been purchased by me so the kids can have access to them. However, with class size increasing from 20 to 34, and with many books showing signs of wear and tear, I need more books, levels A-C, so EVERY child can continue to take books home nightly.
