Playing to Learn

Funded Dec 2, 2024Thank you so much for donating to my project! Being new to preschool I wasn't prepared for all the materials! Through your generosity I have been able to keep materials in the clear bins on low shelves that has given students independence in choosing what they want to play with and makes clean up easy as everything has a place.
The sensory "wiggle seats" have been a huge help for kids who need a little input in their systems so they can sit and attend to stories and circle time. The sensory mats are a great choice in the morning to smooth the transition from home to school when students are having a hard time.
We've had a very fun and productive year so far thanks to the materials you made possible to purchase!”

Off and Running!
Funded Oct 26, 2022I cannot thank you enough for all the support of my second grade classroom. The students were so excited about the new headphones especially as so many of the ones we used were not working anymore. They help students work independently on their online math program without disturbing others who may be doing other work. They are also great for blocking out the noise of small groups learning near them. The shoe bag for storing the headphones keeps them out of the way and organized as each student has their own place to keep them.
We absolutely love the posters! The kids noticed them right away and we refer to them often for our social emotional learning. They look bright and cheery. It's little things that make a big difference for kids and your generosity went a long way!”

Funded Dec 1, 2021It is so great to have a color printer right in my classroom to make our interactive math wall and games colorful and fun. I am able to print and laminate resources for the students that they can reuse and write on with dry erase markers.
The games make our small group instruction so fun the students don't even realize they are learning and improving their math skills! All around the room they have colorful posters and vocabulary cards to refer to when needed for math, science and social studies.
After the dismal year of remote learning, we are so grateful to be back in the classroom and for your generosity in making our return better!”

Funded Aug 27, 2021Thank you so much for the funding of my project, Safe Return. With your help we have been able to stay in school, healthy, with the sanitizing products! We are all vigilant about hand washing, social distancing, mask wearing and using our own materials.
The students each have their own white board, marker and eraser which we use daily during our math lesson. The students also enjoy drawing on them during free time. Not only does this help keep us from handling shared materials, it makes our daily routine more consistent as we have all the materials we need at the ready!
The children were most excited about the art supplies! In science we recently studied habitats and the children got to create each habitat using whatever medium they wanted-crayons, markers, colored pencils, construction paper. Again, they had everything they needed without having to share and their work was beautiful!

Recess-itate Fun
Funded Nov 26, 2019My students were in awe over the new equipment! Since it is pretty cold here and we had some early snow we haven't been able to use it much but they were so thrilled to try it out! Seeing them try, I realized most of them had no idea how a lot of the equipment was used and I had to give a lesson on each one! This reinforced the reason I created the project in the first place - a lot of these children don't get the opportunity to get outside to play, for many different reasons, and lack gross motor skills. Having this equipment will make recess so much more fun and they won't even know it's good for them too. We all can't wait for spring and a chance to get outside to use our new equipment and work on those skills!”

Math. You Can Count on It!
Funded Aug 13, 2019The math materials you made possible for my classroom have made such a difference for me and my students! We are implementing a new program this year which calls for each student to have a tool box of manipulatives at their disposal to use to solve problems. Many of my students are at a level where they need the concrete models to help them understand. With the student counters and the magnetic teacher ones, we are able to work through problems together and the students are getting it!
We use the white boards with the models and dry erase markers in our small group learning every day to expose the students to more abstract ways to solve problems. The children love the giant magnetic Number of the Day board that they get to come up and use and "be the teacher".
Having these tools at the ready has made my job easier and learning math more enjoyable for the students. We all are very grateful!”

Funded Dec 6, 2018I can't thank you enough for donating to my project, "Can you hear me now?". We had been struggling since the beginning of the school year with some old and cheap headphones which there weren't enough of for my classes of 25 students each and kept breaking. Technology is used everyday in my classroom and having these durable Hamilton-Buhl headphones for each child makes managing it easy! Students use them during math centers on a district wide program called iReady which generates lessons for each student according to their skill level. iReady is full of silly characters, music and game breaks that can be pretty loud if there are no headphones. During center time there are groups doing independent work, small groups working with teachers and groups playing math skill game s. There's a lot going on so the headphones provide less distraction.
We also have a new science curriculum and program that has a lot of online videos, digital interactive activities and simulations, books that can be read aloud to students that need it and assessments which the students can easily use now with the help of the headphones.
Classrooms in 2019 are nothing like the ones we attended! Thank you again for your generosity-we all love our new headphones!”

It's hard to explain how much your generous donations have meant to the children in my classroom. They were so excited when to the boxes arrived and we opened them together! Once we opened the big box with the bookshelf they all wanted to load it with books. So they helped me create our new library. Moving the bookcase over enclosed the library space and made it a cozy corner where the children enjoy quiet time with a book and a reading buddy.
I've been able to organize my books into the colorful bins by genre, author, topic, and beginner readers so the children can easily choose a book to practice reading or enjoy a picture book. The display shelf also helps the children access the books relevant to the themes or skills we are working on. We also have incorporated a listening center into our library that students use during our literacy centers. Listening to books read aloud contributes to them becoming fluent readers as they learn about books and all the elements that make a story.
The students love it as every week they notice the new books on the display shelf or another author featured for an author study. All these tools have added to the love of literature and reading that I want to foster in my classroom for my students. As we progress through the school year I see that love growing and am so grateful for the support you provided that has made it possible!”
