Backpacks for All
Funded Apr 6, 2023Thank you helping fund Backpacks for All! The students have really enjoyed having a brand new backpack to start off the new year with! This really helped lift some of the burden that the parents at the school have every year for back to school shopping. They have expressed so much gratitude for this generous donation. My students have a place now to keep all of their important papers, books, and supplies in order for them to be successful at school. We are all so grateful and happy to be able to have brand new backpacks for school.”

This classroom project was brought to life by A Philly Special Christmas and 5 other donors.Math Games, Manipulatives, and Journals, Oh My!
Funded Oct 13, 2017Thank you for your generous donations! The students are using all of the games and their notebooks to learn. They are using the games to help them add and subtract numbers, count numbers, learn their shapes, find the missing addend, and look for and recognize patterns. These games are great for centers and small group instruction! Their notebooks are being written in daily and they are really becoming stronger writers. It is so nice to have all of their writing in one place, so they can easily find it and continue writing from where they left off.
When they first saw the materials, they were in awe. They wanted to get their hands on them as soon as they could. They were very careful with all of the materials because it was brand new and they did not want to damage them. During centers and writer's workshop, I could hear them talking about how excited they were to use the new materials.
The next steps for these projects are to continue using them and having the students use the materials in centers independently, while I work with small groups on other activities/lessons.”

Mold Can't Stop Us! Help Us Bring Back Our Carpet!
Funded Oct 15, 2017Thank you so much for your donations! The students and I love our new carpet. We use it everyday for our morning meeting, and different dance movements. We also sit on it to listen to stories and watch videos about different things we are learning about. The kids can spread out on it during literacy and math centers and do their work on the carpet.
When the kids came into the classroom and saw our new carpet, they were so excited! They talked about it all morning. They couldn't stop looking at it. They were so happy!
We will continue to use our carpet to do activities on to help us learn! Thanks again!!”

Tech Kids
Funded Nov 29, 2016Having the tablets in our room has made our learning more hands on and fun! We use the tablets to go onto different educational games like Starfall, which helps us practice our letters, and numbers. We also have been able to create electronic portfolios using Seesaw and share our learning with our parents. This program allows us to draw images, take pictures of objects, and even record our voices. We have drawn pictures and recorded our voice on our predictions about whether on not the groundhog will see his shadow, our favorite winter time activity, one fact that we learned about President's Day and many other things we have learned about. All of the students love to go on the tablet. I would say the most exciting part of having a tablet is being able to explore and create on their own. Once they have the directions and device in their hands, they are free to work on their own and really accomplish things independently. I have several students who are still struggling with reading. On the tablet, they can go on and hear stories read to them. Since there are only 3 tablets and 24 students, it is very special for them to be able to use one and they understand that. Being able to use the tablet is an incentive for the students to prove to me that they can learn independently, they can take care of their materials, and most importantly, they can be responsible learners. We really appreciate your generosity to help us continue to grow and learn!”

This classroom project was brought to life by the estate of Dorothea Lutz and 2 other donors.Cozy on the Carpet
Funded Aug 25, 2016The students and I appreciate this carpet in our room. We gather on it everyday whether it is for morning meeting, calendar, lessons, dancing, or resting.
When the kids first saw the carpet, they were so happy. They really appreciated how they each got their own square and that it was soft compared to the hard cold floor. They also love the colors! It really brightens up the room and makes it real cozy!
Your generosity for the carpet has made our classroom a better learning environment for the students and I. We feel safe and comfortable and we will continue to use the carpet as we grow.
The next steps for the classroom is for us to have tablets funded for our classroom. The students are on the computers every day, but unfortunately we only have 2 computers for 20 students. They are learning to take turns, but their time on the computer is limited so that everyone can have a turn.”
