Sensory supplies are so important in a Pre-K classroom. Sensory play experiences focus on stimulating children’s senses of sight, sound, smell, touch, taste, balance, and movement. Many young children rely on sensory input to learn about their environment. This is my second year teaching Pre-K in an inner-city school. We are lacking many supplies that allow for young children to explore freely. We need Feel & Find Sensory Tubs, Sensory Sand, baskets, and marbles. I will use the supplies to give each child a chance to learn through touch. Since my classroom is very limited in space, the tubs and baskets will make it easy for me to store and rotate sensory supplies based on the needs and interests of my class. Sensory play, often called "messy play", helps build brain connections that support thought, learning, and creativity. Sensory play also supports language development, cognitive growth, fine/gross motor skills, problem solving/reasoning, and social interaction. Children learn best by doing. Getting messy is an added plus!
