My students will have access to these laptops for a variety of experiences in my classroom. The laptops will be essential during Reading Centers where students will be able to access digital reading resources, build Wikipages about their independent reading books and share thinking about a common story, theme or topic using a shared Google document.
The laptops will also provide my students with an opportunity to access the digital components (games, digital manipulatives and online assessment tools) that are present in our districts math curriculum. These resources will go to waste if my students are only able to access them once every couple of weeks during our school computer time.
Finally, I am really excited to see how Google docs could shift my Writer's Workshop. It will allow students ease in doing final edits/revisions and mimic how adults work through the writing process. It will also provide a digital platform for peer and teacher feedback and conferencing and students access to their writing at home on any smartphone or tablet.
