The items in the shopping cart for these materials are simple at their core: paper for copying, pencils for working, yardsticks for experiments and drawing graphs and some science materials. The computer would be used as a hub for the students to connect themselves with interactive games on our enoboard that they can work as a group on. It would provide the updated software for them to be able to compete with other students in higher income areas. Our current classroom computer is eight years old and is slow to start. If the teacher is supposed to be a leader, then that leader needs to be adequately prepared. With a top of the line technology piece in an situation where technology is last on the totem pole, students would see the potential for faster, higher efficiency work with computers.
The focus on my first project is to bring the necessary elements and a more functional technology piece on my end to better serve them. Inner city often lacks the necessities as a whole. That's why I'm reaching out for help.
With the addition of these items, I will no longer worry about how many copies I can make per week, or beg students to have their parents take them to the dollar store to purchase pencils. These materials are at the core of student work. They give them the opportunity to function and not scramble for materials. Their families have enough on their plates simply providing for them (many refugee families). I'm hopeful that this is the first of many projects. Please help in anyway you can.
