This furniture will transform an existing space to allow students to have a professional space that matches what they will encounter in the professional world. The experiences we create for students to practice interviewing, collaborating and presenting, will empower them to enter the real world. With this funding, we will be able to ensure our students are prepared to succeed in their life after high school. One of the biggest obstacles our students face is their inexperience communicating at a professional level or with adults outside of the education field. This would create a safe, comfortable and familiar space in which students can practice, nurture and grow these skills while building self-efficacy and confidence. Many of our students are from low income households, and many are first generation college students that do not have family members versed in these critical skills that can mentor them. This will help bridge the equity divide between our students and those from more affluent areas as they move into the real world. This would be a point of pride for our students, that they have the same resources other schools have. Not only will my students benefit from the new space, but, our entire school can benefit by using this space to bring in college and military recruiters, business leaders to hire interns, and the district mental health professionals can use the space for individual and group counseling.
