  • Let's Make Entrepreneurship Mobile

    Funded Jan 1, 2022

Thank you for your tremendous support of my students and their school-based enterprise, The Hylton Hangout. The addition of this mobile cashier station has been a great blessing for the business! We have used it to help with long lines so we can take orders accurately and efficiently. Most mornings we are now able to take orders from our bus riders now so that by the time they walk across campus to the coffee shop their drink is waiting for them. Thank you for supporting our school and helping us make an impact on more students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. VanDenBerg

  • Maker-ing Our Way To A New Business

    Funded Feb 19, 2021

Thank you for helping fund this project for our classroom. We started off the past few weeks creating individualized products for the students to sell. They created a marketing plan, are creating their items now, and after spring break will compete to see who can make the most profit off of their creation. They are learning economic and financial skills that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives. It is so fun to watch their creations come to life and learn in a real-world setting.

    Thank you for your support!”

  • Teachers Don't Get the Summer Off

    Funded Dec 19, 2017

Thank you for helping me have the opportunity to experience this conference! It was a great experience for me to be able to learn from educators from across the country. My personal favorite workshop of the conference was on spreadsheet applications that I have been able to use at school already this year. My students have had new opportunities that would have not been available to them without me having attended this conference.

Thank you for supporting me and my students! We are extremely grateful for your generosity!”

  • Help Grow Our School Based Enterprise!

    Funded Apr 5, 2018

This new press has been a huge blessing to my students! We have began to learn how to effectively use it on our projects and are excited to continue to use it to grow our business. The kids were really excited to try out the cup attachment for the machine too.

We have found that it heats up much faster than our old press, and with the smaller plate size it is easier on some designs to get it lined up correctly. We look forward to finalizing a new product line to sell in our school store next school year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. VanDenBerg

  • IDs for Student Success and Safety

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you for helping us get this new identification card machine. It has been a tremendous help for our students. Before this machine we were attempting to make our student identification cards homemade, and they did not do our students justice. This machine is quick, easy to use, and was a truly needed piece of equipment for our school.

Thank you for generously supporting my classroom and my students. We are extremely grateful for Donor's Choose and the wonderful community of donors that allow us to excel in the classroom.”

  • Extra Awesome Earbuds!

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation to my students! We have utilized the earbuds many times already and they have been extremely beneficial! The students are able to watch videos on their own which helps allow me to individualize their learning and allow them to learn at their own pace while not disrupting the progress of the others in class. These are a fantastic resource to have on hand for whenever the students need them. Something as simple as earbuds are providing a lasting impact on my students.

    Thank you!”

  • Attention Shoppers! Entrepreneurship Now On Sale!

    Funded Apr 14, 2017

Thank you so much for helping us further develop our new school based enterprise!

While we planned to attend our town's local festival this past summer, we unfortunately felt it was bet to wait until next year. Currently we are ready to set up to sell at football games and all future town functions.

From unpacking the boxes, to assembling the equipment, and finally setting everything up for the first time the kids are taking ownership of our business and will be able to learn so much as we get our business started. You can see one of our first t-shirt projects in the attached photos which became a great fundraiser for us! The display pieces are great for our storage needs and fit perfectly under the canopy.

Thank you all! I can't wait to see how our business grows throughout the school year!”

  • Teaching Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy With T-Shirts

    Funded Jan 3, 2017

Thank you so much for your generosity in helping us obtain a heat press and vinyl to start a t-shirt company!

While we plan to fully launch the business next school year, I have had some students start using the press and we've sold a lot just within the school. We just received an order to make our FFA chapter's shirts and are excited for future orders. Next year we also plan to incorporate an online store as the students learn more about e-commerce.

I am confident that this project will help to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. VanDenBerg

Starting a school-based enterprise will teach my students how to become entrepreneurs and how to manage money. Being at a small school we don't have access to volume discounts when purchasing things like t-shirts for our school clubs, teams, and organizations. With these supplies the students can create their own! We will use these materials to create school and town pride apparel for our community. Running this business will teach the students to manage inventory, process orders, use excellent customer service, and how to turn a profit. These are all skills that they can apply in their future careers or their own future entrepreneurial ventures. The money earned from this business will help to encourage participation in FBLA by relieving the financial burden from the students and their families. This project will help improve the students financial literacy and show them that anyone can be an entrepreneur with some hard work and dedication.
