In my classroom, I have a designated corner that is called the Cool Down Corner. This space is for students to use when they are feeling emotions such as frustration, anxiety, anger, sadness, etc. While I am always working to help them improve academically, I also have to help some improve behaviorally and learn to express their emotions in an appropriate way. This past year, I have been teaching my class strategies to use to regulate their emotions, but I have a limited assortment of sensory materials currently in my class.
Funding this project would mean that you are helping a child by providing them materials to assist them in appropriately regulating their emotions in a safe and controlled environment. These materials would be put in the cool down corner of my room and students would be able to use them during times of frustration, anxiety, anger, etc. to help them regulate their emotions safely and have a successful day in school. Having sensory tools such as the magnetic sensory builders and the sensory star beanbags would greatly help my students with autism regulate their sensory needs in class. The foam sensory paint set, building brick kit and the clip and create builders would be perfect tools for students to use when they need a distraction from whatever is causing their frustration/anger/behavioral outburst. This gives them an outlet to focus their attention on while their body calms down. Once they are calm, they will be more able to express themselves in an appropriate way.
