Personal Essentials
Funded Nov 29, 2022Thank you for your generosity in helping to supply much needed items to our homeless and refugee students. We have had a large amount of new students that fall into these two categories this year. They are thrilled to receive new personal items as well as some goodies to take home. Many of these students don't have toys to occupy their time when they're not in school, so having playdoh and coloring books is very special to them. We now have extra items to share whenever a newcomer arrives in our school. Thank you.”

This classroom project was brought to life by an Anonymous Classroom Supporter and one other donor.Making Learning Fun Through Educational Games!
Funded Dec 10, 2019Thank you so much for helping fund my project on Donors Choose. Because of this project, my students are able to engage in age-appropriate games and practice their English skills at the same time. My English students are learning many important academic skills and interpersonal skills through playing games.
My prekindergarten and kindergarten students are learning the language of math while playing Frog Party. They are learning addition while simultaneously learning the language of addition, such as plus, equals, and all together. They are practicing social skills by taking turns, passing the game pieces and communicating with one another.
Sight Word Swat! has been a big hit with my kindergarten students. They choose a sight word card and then swat the fly that matches their word with a plastic fly swatter. I love the engagement and the movement this game invokes. My students are able to practice speaking and reading their grade-level sight words in a very fun way.”

English Language Learning & Monitoring Through Interactive Technology
Funded Aug 18, 2017Having the five I-Pads as part of the tools we use for learning English has made a very positive impact on my students when it comes to their acquisition of English. There are many applications available on the I-Pad for learning English and we have been able to download them and use them. The applications are very interactive and the students love the idea of the touchpad. They are also very fun and the students are learning a lot, yet the "feel" of the learning is through gaming. Because of this, the student buy-in is greater. Also, when individuals are learning English, it is nice to have a tool they can use individually when I am working with another student. I have also used to I-Pads to assess my students' learning in the four domains of language - reading, writing, speaking and listening. I am piloting a new assessment tool that is only compatible with I-Pads. This has been a great experience for me and the students. The students really like the interactive component of the assessment, and I like the immediate data it provides. Thank you for making this possible through your generosity. I am forever grateful.”
