When I taught in Oklahoma, I built a classroom library of over 600 young adult novels from all genres. These books provided fingertip access to 7th-grade children. The kids could check books out and take them home, just like any other library. When I transferred to Utah, I left most of the books behind. In my mind, the books belonged at that school. Now I need to build a healthy classroom library at Highland High School. I need higher level books to accommodate older more mature readers, and I also need graphic novels and highly accessible titles for reluctant readers.
