Speech Therapy and Technology!
Funded Sep 3, 2019Thank you so much for choosing to donate to our special project. It means so much to myself and my speech students that there are such generous people in this world. Since receiving the iPads for my speech therapy room, the student have had access to so many new apps related to speech. Some students use the iPad for working on specific speech sounds such as saying the "r" sound. We have downloaded an app that shows us exactly how our mouth is supposed to look when we say different sounds. This has given the students a visual model that has helped tremendously. Some students enjoy reading books on the iPad rather than reading them aloud. I have several students who have made progress in answering comprehension questions because they can understand the story better by listening to it on the iPad. There are two speech students who sometimes are hesitant to leave their classroom to come to speech. Since providing them with the iPad as a form of a reward on behavior, they have easily transitioned to coming to my room for speech therapy. Overall it has been such a nice process watching my students grow and reach goals using technology in our therapy room. Thank you again for your generous donation and please know that you are helping the speech students at P.S 377 every single day!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Quinn

Funded Sep 9, 2016We can not thank you enough for donating your time and money for our laptop. All of the speech students have been able to use the laptop during their speech sessions. Many of the older students love using the computer to research, and find new articles. Our younger students have also grown interest in using the laptop to learn specific speech sounds and new vocabulary words.
We have begun to use the laptop to download new apps and websites that allow the students to read stories that are on their reading level. Additionally some of my students use the computer as a behavior incentive. This has worked in multiple sessions and has helped specific students to focus and produce great behavior!
Lastly, my students are able to discover new ideas and ways of thinking from doing research about specific historians. We spend a great deal of time researching articles and people for Black History month. Because there is so much information on the web, the students are able to search during their speech sessions. In time they will eventually create a research project using pictures, quotes and facts from the laptop. We are so excited to have this in our room truly can not that you all enough!”

Mrs. Quinn
