In my classroom I have implemented the "Daily 5 and CAFE " This is a structure to make classrooms a more effective reading environment. One of the components is called "Read to Self." This allows students to move about the room and sit comfortably as they read a book of their choosing to themselves. As a first year teacher, I cannot afford to fund a comfortable and inviting area in my room for students to WANT to go and sit to read. I have two benches obtained from pervious classrooms, but I would really like to have more options for my students to utilize. One of the 5th grade teachers in my building furnished her room with 10 bean bags, and the students were much more excited for reading time. I would like to have the same option to encourage student engagement in my own room.
