Most of my students have not had the opportunity to travel outside of our community. These books feature many geographic examples that explain the importance of traveling and emphasizes the beautiful diversity of the world's people, places, and ideas. While it would be ideal to travel the world with each one of them, these books are the next best options. While they do not actually leave the school, it encourages them to think, consider, and ponder the world outside of the one they currently know. The resources I am requesting are both visual and linguistic resources to help students "travel" the world from our classroom. "Travel as a Political Act" features a different global location per chapter. In each chapter, the author discusses different topics of human geography, including economic development, government structures, and cultural diversity among global regions. In "Where on Earth?," students would learn from spatial data that helps them view the many layers of the Earth, including fun topics on the spatial spread of roller coasters to more serious topics on the spatial spread of global pandemics. All the resources below are chosen to boost their global awareness of the world and help them understand that no only does when matter, but where does too. My ultimate goal is to help them "think globally, act locally."
