It Is Cold Outside! Winter Care Kits
Funded Jan 30, 2024I am so grateful for your kind support. As you can see from the photos, the students wrote thank you letters about how appreciative they were to receive their kits, while some preferred a photo.
The students then shared words describing "how soft the blanket was," how "they needed a scarf", or how excited they were to have the lip balm.
While I am currently teaching 6th grade, 3 of the students who received kits, asked if I could also provide a kit for their sibling. I was so happy to be able to fulfill their requests! I was only able to because of your generous donations. I admire each of you for providing for my students. Blessings!”

Ms. Reeves
Let's Rebuild Social & Cooperative Learning Skills with ELA Games
Funded Oct 5, 2021Mission Accomplished!! My goals for this project were to provide students with a less stressful learning environment, rebuild social, and cooperative learning skills while making learning fun. I observed students more engaged in their learning, making good decisions, and managing their own behavior. Students were challenged with problem-solving skills during gameplay with the goal of helping them manage any frustrations or stress.
I was encouraged by the positive interactions among the participants. Most of all it was great to see them enjoying themselves again!!
Thank You again for your contributions toward my "Let's Rebuild Social & Cooperative Learning Skills with ELA Games" Project. Blessings!”

Teaching Financial Literacy Using Math Games
Funded Nov 30, 2021I am still so thankful for the donations that funded my "Teaching Financial Literacy Using Math Games Project"! My students, (as you will see from the photos), have thoroughly enjoyed playing these learning games. I am excited to see the students effectively use their newly learned Math skills, and then be able to pair and reinforce the skills learned when using these tools. The students practiced using cooperative learning skills which is something they had not been able to do since we were virtual from March 2020 until we returned this September of 2022. Lastly, it was good to see them having fun all at the same time!”

Ms. Reeves

Funded Nov 19, 2020First, I would like to again say "Thank You" for your kind and generous giving! Our Kindergarten students have been learning in a Virtual setting since March 2020. Since they were all new to Chromebooks, we as teachers found it essential to put as many tools into our students "toolboxes" as possible to make the 2020-2021 School year a success. And your donations made it a reality!
We were gifted a mouse, mouse pad, and headphones for each of our learners. The students loved using the mouse while navigating, as the usage of a Chromebook keyboard mouse isn't an easy skill to acquire. They put the mouse on their mouse pads to help them when they are working from home on uneven surfaces. They also used their mousepads as a place to keep their mouse safe when not in use. The headphones have been an invaluable addition to help our students stay focused. The headphones helped to cushion students from distractions while learning, as well as assisting the teachers to hear the students clearly because of the attached microphone!
Lastly, when the students first opened their gifts they expressed excitement! They shared several times about how they could navigate their screens so quickly.”

Ms. Reeves

Funded Jan 5, 2018Hello! I wanted to express my thankfulness for your kind and generous donations to this project. This is only the second time I have posted a project on Donors Choose and I am still amazed at how quickly this project was funded! I would also like to recognize the Donors Choose organization and staff who have assisted me in getting this project to the funding stage. What an excellent idea, Donors Choose, to include a funding section that is for the comfort of our students!
As you know, your donations were for the "Team Warm and Cozy" partners so that we could provide our students with the necessary undergarments for their warmth and comfort throughout the day. Since more than three quarters of our students come from low income homes, families face daily challenges to feed and clothe their children.
Our school guidance counselor, Ms. Stocks, our school nurse, Nurse Alexander, and I partnered together so that we could have a smooth delivery of the items to the children in need. Once I received the donations, I sent a mass email to our school staff, letting them know of our Donors Choose delivery. Which, by the way, arrived quickly from Amazon! The staff were appreciative of our (and your) efforts to help our students obtain these items discreetly.
I remember the day a Pre-School Teacher and her Teaching Assistant came to my classroom asking to speak to me. They had done some shopping over the weekend to purchase some clothing for a young girl in their classroom. We headed together to Ms. Stock's office to search our supplies. We picked out, from YOUR donations, undergarments and the most adorable little socks with animals on them! She was so happy! Ms. Stocks and Nurse Alexander shared other stories with me of appreciative students. I didn't expect it, but I was teary-eyed. I am so glad you decided to partner with us on this project. Blessings to you all.”

Learning to R-E-A-D with Rebus, Sight Word Readers
Funded Aug 25, 2016Thank you, thank you! Many of my students had not yet become successful readers. The Rebus Sight Word Readers that you funded have words that are commonly seen in reading (sight words, i.e.- the, like, see), as well as rebus or pictures to help the student "read" the sentences. First, I must say, when I offer my students the books, they WANT to read. This is groundbreaking!! Though the amount of years they have been in school may seem minimal to us, through their eyes, it seems like an everyday misery. Almost everything we do in life requires reading.
Think about it-have you ever traveled on public transportation in a different country? Everything is different! The street signs, the money, and the language spoken around you is unaccustomed and strange. Yet, you are a capable adult. It is not that you are unintelligent, you just need a "guide" to help you learn a few key phrases and maybe ride with you on the "bus" a few times and you are on your way!
My role sometimes in reading is to be the "guide". I offer the students choices as to what they would like to read, and the Rebus Sight Word Readers provide a good selection. They read in small groups or 1-1 with me. I have had students say, "Miss Reeves, I did it all by myself," or, "I know this word, it is 'pizza'," or, "Miss Reeves, I can do this!"
The uploaded pictures show the students enjoying the many titles provided by your generous donations. I appreciate you caring about the children I teach so they can become better R-E-A-D-E-R-S!
Lastly, because the students are more confident, and sometimes use the books to help them with their spelling, I'm now seeing them become better W-R-I-T-E-R-S!
Thank you again for your kindness. Be blessed!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Reeves
