Oh my Ohm...
Funded Nov 21, 2024You should have heard the joyful cheering when the yoga mats were first introduced to the class. Students really felt valued that they got their "own mat" to use for our yoga time. They have already become accustomed to getting out a yoga mat and stretching, meditating or just laying to come back into focus after recess. This is a skill and activity that will follow them through life and that they can now go back to whenever they need to self-regulate.
We will continue to go through our calming yoga flow along with our positive affirmations for each move; I am calm, I am kind, I am strong, I am brave, I think positive, I am peaceful, I am focused, and I am safe. These motions along with affirmations will hopefully become so natural that the students begin to actually feel more calm, positive and safe.
Thank you for donating and helping to bring this element of peace into our 2nd grade classroom. They all enjoy the mats in their own way, but collectively, the mats have brought another way to bring our classroom community together. A collective purpose, a group activity, a growing community of Hayhurst Huskies! Thank you!”

Flexible Seating = Focused Learning
Funded Sep 28, 2019Imagine the excitement had when boxes upon boxes arrived at our classroom door.
The students were so excited that they helped unpack, clean up and arrange the new chairs.
The students are really thriving in their new flexible seating classroom. When we recently had our kindergarten buddies in the class, they loved trying out all of the unique chairs and wanted to be in 5th grade too!
We switch around seats at least once a month to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to sit in a "learning area" that suits them the best. We also have flexible seating during our days so that there's not a lot of time simply sitting in one spot.
I really do believe I have more of their attention now. They really feel a sense of community in our classroom and they all know that they are valued - their opinion, their comfort, their learning style.
I cannot thank you enough for the generous donation you made to our classroom. Our district made a matching contribution, so that was also helpful. We really appreciate your support. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Crews
