We like to move! We are an active group of fifth grade students and sitting in one place at a desk all day is not ideal. It is not uncommon to see students participating in brain breaks, reading while laying on the floor, or doing math with a clipboard, sitting against the wall. However, we are limited in materials to make alternative seating options more functional and comfortable. In speaking to my students about how they learn best, the need for flexible seating presented itself. My students brainstormed a list of their ideal flexible seating options, which is the basis for this request. Students selected Hokki stools and exercise balls to allow them to move and wiggle while they work at their desks. Students also selected dorm chairs, a reading pillow, and lap desks to allow them to work comfortably in alternative locations throughout the classroom. This project will help make alternative seating options a reality for our classroom. Students would be able to move while working and select seating options where they could do their best work. Please help this amazing group of students continue to create their ideal learning community.
