More Productive Classroom with a Break Area
Funded Jan 9, 2018The technology that you provided has had a positive impact on the classroom environment. Students are using the technology to learn how to self regulate themselves when they are feeling frustrated, overwhelmed or upset. When a student feels a certain way, they are able to go to our break area, or cozy corner to take a break. The ipad is part of this break area.
The students really enjoy listening to meditation music and popping bubbles. These are apps that are available on for ipad use. They enjoy these activities because it is a non competitive game. The bubbles allow the students to pop bubbles as they move across the screen without any score or timer. Listening to music while they play helps them to refocus and regulate. Other students also enjoy the learning apps to build their memory as part of their break. They enjoy playing word puzzles.
The students who really enjoy this technology are students with special needs such as autism and ADHD. They feel they can take ownership of their own learning because they first complete some work and then get a choice of break time. They are more motivated to try challenging material because they understand that something fun and helpful comes immediately after their challenge.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Clorox Company and 2 other donors.Technology Gives Students Unlimited Resources
Funded May 6, 2014My students and I wanted to take the time to thank you for your generous donation. You have taken the time to give back to a community with limited resources. I work in a title one school. Many of the students do not have access to a computer at home. The new laptop you have helped my classroom to get, will help my students gain access without trouble to many resources. Outdated computers have websites that will not work and often freeze. Now we have a working computer with no issues!
The students are using the computer to practice math facts and other curriculum areas. They are also starting a typing program in order to better navigate the new computer. I will use the computer to create notebook presentations with animation to motivate them. We are all excited for this new technology.
Thank you again for taking the time to help make my classroom extend from the four walls inside our school.”

Mrs. Kaliqi
We Need Your Help
Funded Dec 18, 2013Thank you so much for your generosity. When my students saw that our package had arrived they were so excited. The books and the comprehension cards came very quickly and my students were eager to use them. We talked about what a donor is and why it is important to appreciate what was given to us. The resources were a welcomed addition to our second grade classroom. The students even began to think about how we could share our resources with the other second grade class.
Currently, the resources are being used in a few different ways. The fiction books have been added to our library. The students are able to read them and borrow them to share with their family every week. This is particularly important to the lower level students. They sometimes have seen many of the books in our library and this donation has given them the opportunity to see new titles and become engaged in their reading. The comprehension cards are being used in partnerships and groups during project time and small group after school. This is important because the students can be independent as well as check their own work.
This donation has taught my students many things. First the resources have boosted their learning by exposing them to new vocabulary and stories and different questions they may have to answer. It has also helped them to see that people do try to help and work together to make our community greater. It has taught them that generosity is important and that greatness is possible when you work hard.”
