Seeing in a New Light
Funded Aug 17, 2016Our light table has become a very exciting piece of equipment in room 227! Where some students were having trouble following detailed directions for drawing images, the light table has been extremely beneficial. Students can now trace images, rather than becoming upset and discouraged, which happens often when students are asked to draw from observation. It has also helped many students with vision problems see lines and shapes more clearly.
I had no idea that my students would find sensory uses for the table, but they love the calmness and relaxation that the light offers. Layering colored transparencies over the light is an exciting new way to mix colors. Our "Starry Night" water bead bin is a very popular station for students that finish work early.
My students with special needs have taken to our light table very well. It has given these students especially a sense of feeling and seeing their work 'light up'! More so, students with motor skill disabilities have started becoming so proud of their work due to the assistance of the new technology. It was difficult for myself and support staff to get around to every student and help them with every step of their project. They would feel disheartened and sometimes quit working altogether. Now, students are asking to use the light table so they can complete their work 100% on their own. We are so grateful for the donation that has helped my students become happier, more confident, and even more skillful artists!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flaherty
