  • Light Up Learning!

    Funded Oct 8, 2023

I cannot thank you enough for your contributions to our class project! We have been using our new resources in so many ways! We have been using our timer to stay on task and complete our work in a timely manner, and have been having such a great time learning through the use of our new games!

When we read "Math Curse", so many students could relate to the feelings expressed by the characters in the book. They also gained a deeper understanding while using our place value discs. Our Neon Read On is coming soon and I know my students will remember this event for years to come!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

  • Virtual Colonial Day!

    Funded May 6, 2021

Virtual colonial day was a huge success! Having the materials to send home was so beneficial for students to experience what colonial life was like!

My students had the opportunity to create corn husk dolls, make candles or cream, practice handwriting, play marbles, and so much more!

It was a truly interactive experience, and paired well with the additional colonial resources from our curriculum. The next steps for the project, is to create a problem based learning experience where students can work collaboratively using the materials solving a problem that may have occurred in the colonial days.”

  • Books Galore!

    Funded Oct 15, 2020

Thank you so very much for all of your support on this project! It means so much to me that we were able to put books into my students' hands! As an avid reader and book lover, there is nothing that warms my heart more than seeing students dive into novels and chapter books!

These new books will allow us to form books groups and explore Depth & Complexity thinking stems. These encourage readers to go deep and make connections in their understanding. We use a frame to record our thoughts after reading.

You are all the best and thank you again for all you have done for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

  • School Supplies @ Home

    Funded Aug 26, 2020

Thank you so so much for everything you have done to support my students and I through this challenging time!

My students have complete sets of supplies and materials that they are able to use at home because of your amazing contributions! They have plenty of pencils, erasers, crayons, and whiteboard markers to go around! They were so thrilled to receive new items to use to help them in their learning!

My next steps are to find novel sets and additional resources they can use both at home and in the classroom when they return.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

  • Distance Learning Motivation!

    Funded Aug 12, 2020

My students and I are using our new resources to keep us motivated and connected while we are apart! Students love the prize wheel - especially when they get the prize they were hoping for!

Students cannot wait to get their hands on their pencil bags and have loved our read alouds during our morning meetings. It helped us create our collaborative classroom expectations.

Our next steps will be to work on novels and have our neon read on, which we will use the glow sticks for!

Thank you so much Donors Choose Community!”

    Mrs. K.

  • Gaining Growth Through Gaming!

    Funded Sep 18, 2019

My students LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the games, especially the Jenga!!!! We used Jenga to review multiplying with decimals and you can see from the pictures that they had a blast!

They have also been enjoying the beanbags as a reward when their table wins the weekly competition. They can sit comfortably for the day and use my lap boards to feel at home in the classroom.

I appreciate the donations always. I am hoping to work some flexible seating into my classroom next year, as it gives students options and comfort when they are working on challenging content.”

  • Magnificent Math Manipulatives!

    Funded Jun 5, 2019

My students absolutely love the bright colors of the fraction tiles and circles! They focus so much more on their Math assignments having the ability to move and manipulate these visual representations of fractions. They can convert, add and subtract fractions with the use of these resources and draw more accurate diagrams of the problems they are working through.

We always love the packages arriving and the "oohs" and "aahs" are contagious. Their eyes light up, knowing they have been given a gift that encourages them to work harder to learn.

Our next steps will be to use these tiles during a fraction bakery or room transformations to enliven the experience even more.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

  • Artsy Craftsy!

    Funded May 6, 2019

Once again your kindness astonishes and amazes me! My students loved the new chalk pastels to create some really amazing artwork of some very unique characters! They got very creative with the portraits and used vivid color combinations to draw they eye and attention.

When they opened the boxes, their eyes were full of excitement and anticipation to use the bright colors and scissors. They got to work right away and you could see the wheels start to turn.

This coming school year, I hope to continue using this project and correlating it with story writing so that they can show their characters through written and visual media!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

This classroom project was brought to life by San Diego Gas & Electric and 2 other donors.
  • Hands-on Learning!

    Funded Mar 15, 2019

My students absolutely LOVED the hands-on molecule kits! They were able to create three-dimensional molecules to see their compounds and elements up close to understand how they bond together. They were able to draw diagrams and label the molecules in their notebooks so they could take home and remember the experience.

My students were so happy to know that people out there who don't even know them care that much about them to provide them with this learning experience. It is truly because of the generosity of others that we get to build their capacity and knowledge to understand the world around them in truly unique ways. The looks of awe and wonder on their faces when they first opened their kits is something that will forever be imprinted in my mind.

In the future, we are going to have more hands-on STEAM Science experiments and activities to align more closely with the Next Generation Science Standards that my 5th graders are currently being tested on. We will be better equipped to meet and exceed these standards throughout the years.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

  • Let's Get Moving!

    Funded Nov 21, 2017

Thank you so much! We hit the ground running right away as soon as we got our yoga mats and immediately my students were coming up to me and thanking me for practicing yoga with them! They are so excited and into the mental and physical challenges that our practice brings us. They couldn't believe that you all chose them out of all the millions of students out there to receive such a kind and thoughtful gift.

We use the mats every morning for our Physical Education rotations so the mats are serving over 130 students! We have discussed themes such as mindfulness, self-care and self-appreciation, kindness to ourselves and others, non-stealing (asteya), and balance. It's been so wonderful to bring these aspects into students' lives as we don't always have time within our heavily loaded day for these all important life principles.

I am hoping to start an after-school yoga club this Spring to really dive deep into the benefits of yoga practice with my students. It helps them focus, encourages them to grow, and promotes a healthy, happy lifestyle! All important things they need to be successful in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. K.

This year, we bringing the fun back into learning! After attending the National Get Your Teach On! Conference, I am so inspired to present the subject matter and material in fun and innovative ways! My motto this year is "Expect the Unexpected!". As a school, our focus is "Work Hard, Think Hard, Be Kind", and I want to do everything in my power to help my students embody this mantra everyday! The molecule kits, legos, and popsicle sticks will be especially useful in STEM activities. The bean bag chairs and pillows will help me create a warm and welcoming environment, creating a second home for my students. I have also asked for tap lights and picnic tables so I can try on some room transformations this year. Every student deserves the best from their education, and no one teacher can do it alone. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to fund my projects and drive my dreams into reality!
