  • Small Group, Big Fun!

    Funded Sep 13, 2022

Thank you so much for funding this much needed project! We will share pictures on the page as soon as we have everything up and running in the classroom. You have no idea how much this helps our small group time! Having our own whiteboard will make it much easier for me to teach, and for the students to learn.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Berry

  • Making Every Voice Heard- Classroom Microphone

    Funded Sep 24, 2021

Our class cannot express how thankful we are to have received such a wonderful gift. Not only have these microphone balls allowed us to continue to have meaningful discussions where every voice is heard, but they also have encouraged students to be active participants during whole group time. Students want a turn with the microphone, and love that they can toss it to a friend or the teacher when they are done. We no longer have to say "can you repeat that?" or "what?" when students want to participate. Again, it has been a blessing to our classroom community.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Berry

Students who have learning disabilities often have difficulty following directions on their own. Working in smalls groups tends to leave some of these students on their own to direct their learning, while the teacher instructs a different group. The students who will use these iPads have already been identified as struggling readers and are, on average, two grade levels behind in math. The games and activities they will have access to on the iPads will allow them to be active participants in their learning, giving them time to practice skills they may have missed, and will help them continue to expand their learning. They will also feel more successful in the classroom as learners, as they will be practicing at their independent learning level. Fourth grade can be a difficult time for some students socially, and being able to have that anonymity in their reading and math practice removes the social stigma that is sometimes placed on students with learning disabilities. Giving a small group access to iPads allows the teacher to provide appropriate instruction to all students, whether they are with the teacher in group, or working independently.
