• Samurai Style Catcher's Gear

  I want to thank you for your help as our newest baseball season gets underway. We have a lot of new players on the team this year and we have a lot of returning players as well. Our projects on DonorsChoose have always made it possible for everyone who wants to participate to be able to join the team without any concern for buying expensive equipment.

  This project is really going to help us develop players who are playing catcher. The samurai gear set fits our 8th grader great and allows our 7th grader to use a different set that helps him get good repetitions in practice. The chest guard and helmet will provide the best possible protection.

  I am excited for our new season and I know the boys are as well thanks to your contribution.”

• Baseball Bags for Those Who Lack a Locker Room

  Funded Nov 3, 2022

  I write to you about half way through our current baseball season and having the bags you helped supply has made everyone's life a lot easier. My players are able to keep track of the supplies they have received way easier and loading up for practices and games is a lot easier than in previous years. My players can also take their gloves and other equipment home for the weekend or over breaks to practice and I know they can bring everything back easily. Our storage area is a lot easier to manage as well since I can consolidate most of supplies with the bags a lot easier. Thanks for helping us grow as a team!”

• Help Give My Players the Personalized Gear They Need

  It's exciting to share with you that all the materials you helped purchase have already made a difference to our team. We have a new top of the line batting helmet with extra protection for our players jaws (and it's shiny too!) that fits even the biggest of heads. We have cleats that fit our whole team so everyone can be ready to go in a game. Another great part of having the additional cleats is as players grow they can just exchange them out each season. We have great gloves that have improved our defense. Finally we have a catchers chest guard that fits our taller players great and offers the best protection. We have a lot to be thankful for!”

• Baseball Catcher's Gear for Next Year

  Funded May 18, 2022

  Our catchers gear has been a wonderful addition to our practices. We have a high quality chest guard and the best glove we could ask for to break in and replace our old one. We've been able to spend additional time working with our catchers on an individual basis and give them an opportunity to really suit up and practice what they would experience in a game. This means more meaningful participation for more players and better outcomes in the future. Finally our players can see the investment we are putting into the program so that no matter what happens they know the adults are working to support them the best they can.”

• Safety Gear for the New Year

  I am immensely grateful for your contribution to a very worthwhile piece of equipment for my baseball players. One thing I try to do as a coach is provide everything a player needs- if you show up and you want to play then you'll be taken care of. Chest guards really help our players that are new to the game develop confidence and make parents reassured their child has extra protection, especially if they are new to the game. The players were glad to have the equipment and I had enough guards to provide for everyone throughout the season. Thank you so much for your help!”

• Help Us Stage a Baseball Batting Cage

  I am incredibly grateful for your help with this project. Our baseball season is underway and your donation has been used to help our team in a lot of different ways. First off is the new pitching machine- the Junior Hack Attack has been set up and we are ready to have the players use it upon their return from winter break. There is a lot of excitement about it and we have already "tested" it. The machine is faster and more accurate than anything we have used before and will really help simulate the pitching we will see in games.

  Unfortunately we were unable to get the actual cage to go around the machine, but your donation was used to help in some other important ways. We were able to get 9 new Rawlings baseball gloves for our players to use. The gloves are durable and a nice upgrade for some of the ailing gloves the team has been using for years. There is a lot of excitement about the new gloves as well- while a few players bring their own most use a team issued one and I think there's a lot of happiness amongst the players with their new gear.

  The last thing that we purchased was a Pitcher's Pocket from Better Baseball - this is a durable net that simulates a strike zone so we can work with pitchers and catchers independently at practice. We will have lots of guys practicing their pitching this year so your donation has helped us build confidence from the mound.”

• Baseball Batting Practice

  Funded Dec 4, 2020

  This batting screen made a wonderful impact on our shortened season. We were able to have much more productive practices because of the screen because we could work on offense and defense by splitting the team up. Our new players could start practicing their swings on tees and our veterans could work on their timing and mechanics with balls thrown by coaches behind the l-screen. Half of our team has never played baseball prior to this season and getting them more experience quickly has been extremely helpful.

• Next Season Starts...Not Now...But Soon?

  I want to thank you for your incredible generosity helping us get these supplies. We are coming up on the year anniversary of our last game and the news that school would be cancelled prior to spring break. While we could not fully anticipate that our season and school year would end without seeing each other again that day, we certainly left with excitement for playing again and the possibilities of what could come next for us as a team.

  Later this month we plan on returning to practice. Things will be very different from when we began practicing last season but our return will be made easier and safer with the new equipment. My players who were coming for in person instruction were excited to see the new gear and test it out when it arrived. My classroom has slowly become a baseball storage shed and that is giving us a good sense of anticipation and eagerness to pick up where we left off. We could not have done it without you!”

• Cleats for Cougars

  As I sit and watch Korean Baseball on ESPN I have to be grateful for the experiences our boys got before their season abruptly ended. Pilgrim Academy's baseball team had its best year yet with an incredible amount of support from within and outside of Houston. Your contributions helped ensure that every player had cleats to wear in the game and made it a lot easier for everyone to run. We were able to provide the equipment that everyone needed so anyone who wanted to play on the team could show up and play - thank you for help keeping the national past time from being cost prohibitive.

  The boys grew a lot this year - I saw better focus, more hustle, and our eight graders becoming leaders. We practiced sliding after a big rain, got to see the Rice University Owls baseball team in action, and celebrated some important milestones. I hope the pictures show you a little bit of how fun it was to be these kids coach. Thank you for supporting our team.”

• Help Me Teach Current Events With Junior Scholastic Magazine

  Thank you so much for your wonderful donations! The magazines have arrived and our students have been able to start using them as part of our reading and journaling days in social studies! The magazines showcase a lot of important current events including immigration and refugee rights, the California wildfires, and clean water access.

  The magazines are especially beneficial because they feature great graphic design that can showcase our nation's system of checks and balances on one page while also featuring perfectly relevant and grade level appropriate pro-con arguments in the back of each issue.

  The magazines are a wonderful addition to the class and I am happy to include them so our students get a chance to connect to the world!”
