Poetry Through My Eyes!

Funded Sep 17, 2019

To see the faces of my students when I announced the funding and quick arrival of our new color laser printer was simply indescribable. I work with students who live in poverty; many of whom have never seen a color laser printer--much less actually have access to one where they get to print their own work. I saw everything from disbelief to excited anticipation; some couldn't believe that total strangers would give them a gift like this!! It took a little convincing that the printer was ours and no one from the district could move it to another "more important" room.

Our project, "Poetry Through My Eyes" has taken on a whole different level of engagement. We had been using colored paper and cutting out designs and lettering, but now they get to design online and print their creations in color--saving a lot of work and also opening up their knowledge base and skill levels in working in the digital environment. We will be working on this project all year, but already, binder covers have been "upgraded" with the addition of color printed images.

As a 21st century teacher, I am especially thrilled to offer my middle school students such high-end technology that would have been impossible without your generous donations. Using this printer is providing instant gratification as they see their designs come to life right before their eyes.

Thank you seems such an insignificant way to express the level of gratitude my students and I feel. Please know that your contribution has positively impacted my students' academic efforts, but it has also allowed them to see that there are still really awesome people in this world; people who give from generous hearts when they are made aware of a need.

From all of us, THANK YOU!!”

With gratitude,

Mr. Hancock
