  • Engaging Families and Teaching STEM Principles with Robots!

    Funded Dec 19, 2016

Thank you so much for supporting our program. The students gained so much hands on experience and the involvement of the parents made it even more valuable. In fact, we have been asked to host another family STEM event! Your generosity helped make our school, and this program, even more open and friendly to the community!

After the event, having the various STEM materials in the classroom has helped open the students' eyes to other ways to look at and solve a problem. For example, we can use the number of wheels to explain simple machines or the number of bolts needed to teach fractions. Additionally, the Boe-Bots have introduced the whole world of coding and programming to the students and they love it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pipkorn

  • Students Mine their way to Environmental Knowledge of Minerals!

    Funded Oct 3, 2016

This mobile field trip provided an invaluable insight into the Florida science standards addressing rocks and minerals.

The Diamond Del's field trip came to the school and the 'geologist' explained about erosion and compression and how the minerals are formed. The students were able to sift through and 'mine' for minerals in a method that is actually used in the field. They learned about the locations of the different materials and how the stones are extracted from the earth.

After this hands on experience, the children used the hardness scale to identify the minerals and gemstones that they had found.

Thank you for helping make this amazing experience come true for these 4th graders! We truly appreciate you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pipkorn

  • 4th Graders Need to Understand the Importance of Enviromental Science

    Funded Sep 8, 2016

What a wonderful gift you have given our class! I cannot thank you enough for your generous support to help educate students about the life cycles of plants. So often, students are told to read about the concept in a science book or they watch of movie to show the process, but those techniques quite often don't fully engage the students. However, planting their own seeds, nurturing the seedling, manipulating its growth through light, water and nutrients has truly brought these concepts to life!

Thank you again for your generous support.”

  • Hands on STEM based activities enhance students learning!

    Funded Sep 1, 2016

I want to personally thank every donor for selecting our project and providing the students with the opportunity to learn with hands-on experiences. The concepts of engineering and motion can make for boring reading, with little true comprehension, but seeing the principles actually work has been invaluable!

The most exciting part of having the various building sets is seeing how the children work together towards a common goal. They are connecting past experiences and using trial and error to apply the principles that we are studying. Not only are they excited about our 'creation days', they are learning how to work together and to communicate various ideas.

Thank you again. You have made a difference in the students' education and, hopefully, helped create the scientists of tomorrow!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pipkorn

  • Exercise Makes You Smarter!

    Funded Aug 23, 2016

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. These stools have assisted several students, especially our 'wiggly' ones! I have one student in particular who struggled with focusing due to his need to move and his extreme ADHD. Since receiving his stool, he gentle rocks at his desk while he completes his work. These Hokki stools truly have been a godsend.

The students were aware that Target has chosen our grant. When the boxes were delivered, one would have thought that it was Christmas! They were so excited and eager to try the stools. Now, we have to have a rotation of a few of them because everyone wants one!

As we prepare for a rigorous school year of learning, your donation will help the students excel. It is easy to discredit a student's need for movement and stretching until you see the struggle in person. Thank you for understanding and helping these children be successful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pipkorn

Our class is filled with endless learning opportunities that are BOTH meaningful and exciting. I feel that learning should be fun, engaging, and individualized for each student. School should be a place where children look forward to coming each day. My goal is to create life-long learners who enjoy learning and experiencing new things.
