  • An Elmo for Kinders

    Funded Jan 24, 2012

I am extremely excited that our project is funded! We have been waiting for a new document camera to help with instruction and learning. Thank you for your support, especially the Wasserman Foundation and Starbucks for providing the gift cards to parents and the public. Technology is an important component in our classroom and it wouldn't have been possible without your generous support. I cannot wait to make use of this camera to model language arts, math, art, and many more lessons to the children. They will be able to see what I see! YAY!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Van

This classroom project was brought to life by Wasserman Foundation and 26 other donors.
  • Literacy Through Eric Carle

    Funded Mar 30, 2011

The Eric Carle books are definitely nice additions to our classroom library. The kids enjoy reading them, independently and with partners. I have used it also as a read aloud for science, social studies lesson, and art lesson. I know my future students will appreciate the books just as well. We cannot thank you enough, Becca, for making the initial contribution, and Townsend, for matching Becca's amount. We hope you continue to support other literacy projects.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Van

  • Say No To Boring Math

    Funded Dec 28, 2010

We made use of the math manipulatives extensively in learning the attributes of solid figures and telling time. They use it during whole class instruction, small group cooperative learning, and during math workshops. The students enjoy the hands-on experience as it makes learning math come alive. Their spatial knowledge of shapes has increased as it shows through their class assessments and standardized tests. They have become skillful in learning how to tell time using a variety of methods, such as "5 minutes before 2," and "15 minutes after 6."

My students know that they not only benefit from your support, but are happy that my future students will do as well. We are extremely grateful for your contributions!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Van

  • Get Crafty With Kinder Art

    Funded Jan 26, 2010

Thank you for your support in art education. Our kindergarten schedule is packed with academics, but I try to squeeze in arts and crafts whenever I can. Your donations to the art supplies of paint brushes, watercolor paint, glue, and wiggly eyes have made it possible for me to continue what I do with my students.

The kids enjoyed learning addition when they made the ladybugs using the wiggly eyes. They painted four-leaf clovers on our classroom door to celebrate St. Patrick's holiday. The fun continued when they painted real leaves with their new paintbrushes and watercolor sets as an extension from the science unit on trees. They pressed the painted leaves on a paper to create their own art masterpiece.

These are just a few activities we have done since we received your gifts. We look forward to many more arts and crafts activities that not only integrate academics to the arts, but expand their creativity and imagination.

We hope you continue to support the arts as your donation is deeply appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Van

  • An Easel Makes Learning Easy for Kindergartners

    Funded Sep 24, 2009

My students and I were extremely excited to receive your generous gift. Their mouths dropped when they first walked in the classroom and saw the new easel awaiting for them.

It has been a resourceful tool in my teaching and their learning. I am able to teach without having to worry if they can see what I write or not. The board is large enough for all students to see, and the ease of mobility allows me to adjust it's position for better viewing. The double-sided easel with the lines side allows me to teach manuscript and writing. My aide and parent volunteer also make use of it when pulling out students for small group instruction. The kids enjoy using the board to arrange magnetic numbers and alphabets and practice their manuscript.

Without your support, teaching wouldn't be as effective and efficient as it is now. Please continue to provide support in the future to needy classrooms like ours. Once again, we are very grateful for donation.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Van

Touch, feel, build! These are what first graders do best, and they can do this in science! Our new STEM curriculum integrates science, technology, engineering, and math to create an exciting learning environment that develops critical thinking skills early on. The hands-on activities in the STEM bundle kits will get kids excited about science. They will learn about magnetism, motion, and how to design and build structures. We will learn the basic concepts as a class, and then students can use these ready-made activities to further explore the standard in small groups. The kits make teaching and learning fun and efficient!
