I believe that giving my students a comfortable reading area will increase their level of excitement, as well. I want my students to be interested in reading, not just see it as another necessary assignment. I am requesting the seating options so that my students can find a comfortable place to sit and read in my classroom. Students are confined to their desks for the majority of the day. I want them to be comfortable as they read so they can focus on the content of their novel, as opposed to being worried about sitting still in a desk. The books that I have selected are known as the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books for 2016-2017, for 3rd grade to 5th grade. Our school offers extra incentives for students who read these books throughout the year. Often, these books are so popular that it is hard to check them out at our school library, or students are wait-listed. By offering them in class, I feel that my students will be provided more of an opportunity to participate in the school wide incentive program. These books cover a wide range of interests, and are of varied reading levels. As students read, they will also be able to track their goal percentage on the requested charts. I have experienced that if students can see their progress, they are much more likely to try and reach and improve their goal.
