After two years of pushing a cart around the hallways, this year I get a classroom in which to hang my hat (and park my cart). I want the room to be a supportive learning environment, and I want my classroom to have all the supplies students need to stay engaged in lessons and activities. A lack of supplies at best wastes valuable class time, and at worst creates classroom management issues. When a student doesn't have a pencil, or is unable to sharpen their pencil with the ancient crank sharpener, they can create a distraction for the entire class. When a student has to go to the restroom for facial tissue, they miss crucial class time. And if a student can't afford art supplies, art-integrated learning fails to engage them. In addition to basic classroom supplies, sticky notes will be utilized in literacy strategies such as annotating novels and creating interactive notes. Annotating encourages active and engaged reading, contributing to better comprehension and retention of content.
