  • It's Basketball Time

    Funded Nov 7, 2024

My classes are so excited to finally have basketball goals in our gym. They cannot wait to start using them. During our basketball unit, the students will learn how to shoot a ball through the goal by hitting the red box behind the goal. The goals will be used for many games besides basketball. For example, we are also using the goals as targets in our frisbee unit with the first and second graders. It is very fun for all the students to shoot different pieces of equipment through the goals.

I am teaching a basketball unit with dribbling, passing and shooting. The students will practice shooting on the three goals. Two goals are for the younger students and one goal is ten feet high which is regulation height. All students can be successful shooting on the goals.

The future will be to participate in the school districts elementary basketball league. We will begin forming teams to participate in the league. Winchester students are very thankful to play basketball in their gym.”

  • School-Wide Games

    Funded Oct 21, 2024

My students absolutely love the air hockey table! They are learning to take turns, and to keep track of their goals. They are also cheering on their friends when one of them scores a goal. They work together to get the hockey table from the top of the bookcase and carry it to where it needs to be plugged in. They are learning how to fairly decide which 2 students get to play first. They are also enjoying the board games that were purchased with your generous donations as well. Thank you so much for making a positive impact in my classroom through you kindness and generosity.”

  • The Game of Life

    Funded Oct 6, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donations! You have provided materials for myself and my grade partner to be successful that extended from last year into this school year. The copy paper has allowed us to print resources, graphic organizers, and learning materials. The poster boards have allowed our students to create presentations, projects, and public service announcements around the school.

My students are so happy to come into the classroom and have what they need to be successful for their learning. You have allowed this eagerness and willing to learn to continue.”

  • Carnival of the Year

    Funded Sep 17, 2024

Our school carnival was a huge success! There were a lot of fun games, activities, entertainment and good food. We had a wonderful turn out, tons of kids with their families. Everyone had a great time.

Thank you for your support, without it this event would not be possible. Your help with the funds for prizes and food allows us to keep the prices very low and affordable. This way most of our families are able to attend and can afford to buy tickets (we also are able to have scholarships). The carnival is not a fundraiser, the main purpose for the school carnival is to provide a fun event for all of our families.

Thank you for your help and support. Thank you for making this event possible.”

  • Jumping For Your Health

    Funded Oct 29, 2024

We recently received the new ropes you generously gave to our program and the students already have their personal favorite jump rope. It's great to see them get so excited about practicing a skill that benefits the body as much as jumping rope. Our students have spent a considerable amount of time jumping rope during the last three years and the large majority of them have become very accomplished jumpers. They are proud of their hard earned talent and like to show off the new jumping skills they have mastered.

My students have have commented on how these new ropes are silent when compared to the beaded ropes they were accustomed to using during jumping practice. Many of them say that they like the feel and the lack of sound of these ropes while others say they prefer to hear the sound of the beads hitting the wood floor when they jump. Now we are able to accommodate both groups.

It didn't take long for them to become attached to these new ropes your provided for them. The ropes are of really good quality and will last for years to come. It was a goose bump moment as this was a day that many of my students had been working towards and dreaming about for three years.

Thank you so much for making this happen for our students. We cant tell you how much your gift is appreciated!”

  • Come On In for a Cool Treat

    Funded Sep 16, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting this project! I can tell you that the snow cone machine was a hit! The students loved having a cool treat a field day because it was hot, hot hot out there in the Tennessee sun. Getting a snow cone gave them a great way to cool off. Plus, this project gave us enough syrup and cones to use at other events during the school year.

We are also using the snow cone machine at our fall festival and as an incentive for both student behavior and academics. They get excited when they see the snow cone machine coming out.

Again, thank you for your donations that made our snow cone machine possible. My students and I appreciate it very much!”

  • Popping For All

    Funded Sep 13, 2024

Thank you. Your donation of the movie popcorn popper, all the popcorn, and the candy is so greatly appreciated. We were in desperate need of a popcorn popper for all of our many functions, and your donation met this need. Thank you for supporting our efforts to support our students and school. It is so kind of everyone to help my students heat the popcorn machine. The students are beyond happy and delighted to try this out and eat fresh popcorn in the classroom. Thank you so so much for such kindness to my school.”

  • Throwing Shade

    Funded Aug 30, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The students here at Winchester Elementary School use the tents as a "shading" station when we have our outdoor activities. We also use it for "water stations" for our various Field Day events.

The students, as well as the staff in our office, were very surprised to see that we now have some shade for the students who really need it while outside. Many of the students want some shade as it may get to 85 degrees outside with the sun shining directly on them.

It will be put to good use with all of our fun outdoor activities, and we can all be together. This is a great gift that will help all of our students both physically and mentally.”

  • Incentives for Learning

    Funded Jan 15, 2018

Thank you so very much for your generous donations to our project. We were blessed last school year by receiving two printers from DonorsChoose.org so that the students could print out their completed work. Having the extra ink for our printers has lessen the need to purchase ink.

The availability of the printers for the students has been the biggest incentive for them to complete their writing tasks on the computer with pictures and/or words. Also, they are willing to learn other nifty things with the computer just because they can print it. What was totally unexpected when we asked for the donations for the printers is how printing would affect other areas of development. The students want to show others what they have done and how they learned it, which intern is developing their social and communication skills. This is a huge milestone.

It is amazing that something so simple as printing could have such a major educational and social impact. Thank you again for your generosity.”

    Mr. Herrington

  • Making the World a Better Place

    Funded Jan 12, 2018

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project. The materials you provided have had a tremendous impact on my students' grasp of circuitry. We used the test lead sets with alligator clips as soon as we received them. When my students connected the batteries to the uni-directional Leeds correctly, their eyes lit up brighter than the Leeds. Even though they understood the concept on paper, it was still like magic for them. They worked diligently when I gave them the supplies to construct a parallel circuit. It was a challenge for them to transfer that knowledge from paper to reality, but they were so happy once they accomplished the task.

This is truly one topic that requires materials for hands-on learning. There was such a disconnect when they were calculating current, voltage and resistance on paper. Most did it methodically, with no understanding of the underlying concepts. They are having fun experimenting with circuits now. A class full of buzzers sounding off simultaneously can be a bit grating on the ears and the nerves, but it is worth it to see my students so engaged in a learning activity.

Next, they will attempt simple circuit challenges with the Mackey Mackey. These are fun activities that incorporate aluminum foil, Plato, Popsicle sticks, strawberries or other conductive fruits, and a variety of small conductive items like paperclips, pennies and copper brads into circuits. Thank you for supporting our classroom. Your generosity is very much appreciated.”

I am asking for sports equipment for our school. The equipment will be used in all P.E. classes which will benefit all 610 students that attend ? Elementary. The baseball gloves, bats and sports equipment will provide the students with opportunities to increase their gross motor and vestibule skills necessary to prepare our students to flourish. We will also use the equipment to form a school team. Currently we have no sport equipment or teams at our school. Having a school baseball and softball team will help with discipline ,motivation and community spirit. The sports equipment will give our students new adventures unknown in our neighborhood.
