Deep Dive Into Reading
Funded Feb 18, 2024My fifth grade students absolutely loved all of the books received from this project. The Fly Guy Sampler books were very helpful for my low readers because they have interesting graphics and easier to read vocabulary.
All of the students wanted to read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books and the Junie B. Jones books. The Bad Kitty books also seemed to be the book if choice for students during free reading time. The science set of books entitled Who Would Win really peaked their interest because my class loves to learn about animals.
Again, thank you so much for blessing my class with these books.”

Funded Nov 28, 2022My project , " Creating a Positive Environment", was a huge success. My fifth grade students had been exhibiting a lot of anti social behaviors and had a lack of knowing how to collaborate effectively in groups. I requested 16 toy/ calming tools for my project: 4 each of the silicone bubble pop toy, the fidget slug, the fidget octopus, and the celestial little Earth buddy. When I first opened the box with the items, the kids were wowed by them. For example, the had seen spinners before, but not spinners with a popper toy aspect. The fidget slug was totally awesome..all of the kids wanted to have one on their desk while doing their work. The students have been so stressed out by the high stakes tests that we are preparing for, that these emotional calming toys have really helped them. I have seen both attitudes and achievements increase as a result of the use of these items.”

Funded Aug 19, 2016Dear Ms. Burlingame,
I want to thank you so much for the Be Healthy Be Choosy kit for my fourth grade scholars. We started using the materials immediately. As a class, we started with the fruit and veggie beanbags and did all of the physical activities that came in the teacher's guide. These activities included: beanbag balance, pass the beanbag ( in unique ways such as using an elbow toss), and Hungry Rabbit. The class has enjoyed using the wrist ribbons and following the beat of the songs on the musical Cd's that came with the kit.
We are also using the card library to sort food into food groups and identify nutrients found in different foods. Currently, the class is tracking what they eat in journals. We had great fun making shopping lists based on healthy choices and nutrition values of food. I am going to extend this as a project for the Thanksgiving holidays by having students prepare a shopping list, a guest list, and a Thanksgiving menu of the food that they would like to serve. I can't wait to see what they come up with!!
Another fun activity involved the sign language cards. Gradually, my students are learning the signs for various foods as well as common manners such as "thank you" and "please". I utilize the Choosy puppet when teaching the activities in the kit.
My students have been overjoyed with the materials and activities. Thank you again for your kindness that you have shown my class.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Barstow
