Young mathematicians need time to work with hands-on materials and collaborate with each other. They need additional practice to grasp new concepts, especially English Language Learners and students with special needs. These math station projects will make this possible for my classroom by having students work in groups and learn through these interactive math activities. These materials include concrete materials while also challenging students to apply concepts to real world. There a variety of concepts in these Math Instant Learning Centers like, time, money, multiplication, fractions, and real world application. All of these are extremely important concepts that are needed to pass third grade. These materials are perfect for those students that just need some extra practice while others need to pushed to extend their math reasoning and problem solving skills. Problem solving and critical thinking are life long skills that are essential in our everyday world. These materials will also help my students with listening and speaking skills as they work through their activities as a team. For example, "Number Talks" and "What's my Best strategy" will allow students to share their thinking about numbers and strategies both verbal and written. There are also lots of visuals that help my English Language Learners and Special Education students that need that support. While students engage in these activities, I will be able to teach small groups of students to address the necessary skills and meet the needs of each student withe the Common Core Practice Cards or the Write and Wipe Pockets.
