Math is a subject most find tedious ... hard ... boring ... even adults--not just students. It is crucial that teachers are innovative while still sticking to the crucial essentials for learning to be awesome mathematicians. Marketing is a more practical, engaging, fun course than Math for most students. Now that I'm teaching both Marketing and Math to my Freshmen, I want to make sure we are just as engaged in the Math as we are the Marketing Principles! Throughout the year, students will combine algebra and marketing in lesson and projects. The marketing topics will include: dress for success, marketing professions, financial literacy, distribution, and product advertisement. Many of the projects will require students to write papers or create presentations. The project covers will allow the students to submit their papers in a professional format. The markers, colored pencils, and pens will allow the students to represent themselves and highlight their creativity in their presentations. Even though the students will be working on marketing, Algebra is a math class. Research shows that graphic organizers and foldables help all level of students organize their thoughts. It also gives them to have important notes in a compact format that is easy to study. About half of the wishlist for this project is colored printer paper so that the students can easily recognize the organizers and foldables they need. The project will provide my students with many of the materials they will need to be successful in their academic endeavors. By the end of the year, the students will have mastered Algebra 1 and Marketing Principles concepts.
