I have to honor of teaching third grade math to approximately 20 students in the District of Columbia Public Schools. Our students are hardworking, energetic and kind. Many of our students come to us as survivors of traumatic life experiences. They demonstrate resiliency every single day. About half of our students are English Language Learners and 99% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
Our students are creative and motivated young students who have the potential to be anything they want to be; and they have a school full of teachers willing to do whatever it takes to help them reach that potential.
As teachers of students who have had unimaginable hardships in their short lives, it is our duty to provide them with the best education imaginable regardless of their economic situation or their neighborhood.
