"I didn't do my work today because I didn't have a pencil", knowing that my students will be set up to achieve their fullest potential from the get go, overflows my heart with joy. Knowing that complete strangers believe in their ability to succeed will push them further than they ever dreamed! The success of my students is often hampered not by their drive and determination, but by their lack of supplies. By giving my students these basic supplies, you are preemptively arming them for success. The bulk of this project will be for composition books. These composition books will be used for my students' Interactive writing Notebooks, or INB's. Research has shown that students learn better when the knowledge can be immediately implemented. The INB facilitates student learning by allowing the students to have a more hands-on approach. Rather than traditional note taking, the students can create foldables to further cement their newly found knowledge. INB's are multipurpose, they serve as an archive of information, and an equally important running record of student achievement/progress. Coming from such an high poverty area, it is difficult to get school supplies in from the students. Not having to wait for a group of four to use scissors, tape, glue, and colored pencils will certainly help expedite the process to more learning!
