In my district, I am required to administer standardized performance-based assessments that are sadly based more on their writing abilities rather than their Dance skills. As a result, I turn my beautiful Dance studio into an English classroom twice a week, and my students write academically every single day. Due to the lack of resources, I teach most of my lessons using my mirror as a white board, and if heaven forbid I need to show them a video to back up my lessons, I pull out the tube television that is provided by the school (circa 1992). I have request a flat screen television, an Apple iPad, and Apple TV. With these resources I can easily videotape my students' movement and projects with the iPad and then immediately replay the video on the TV with the Apple TV. This will help me correct and clean their projects. Also, with the Apple TV and iPad I can control the music from anywhere in my classroom, allowing more time for feedback and instruction. Lastly, on the days that I teach English, I can show my PowerPoint presentations on the TV, rather than writing everything out on my mirror. With these resources that I have requested, I can increase the effectiveness of my lessons as well as information retention and student participation! My students' knowledge of Dance would expand exponentially if I could use technology as a tool in my classroom!
