Calming Area
Funded Jan 11, 2023My students are using the Calming Corner when they need a break, are upset, angry, or feeling other strong emotions. They also use it sometimes to read or write independently.
My students were very excited when they first saw the Calming Corner. They ran over to the corner of the room and smiled.
Next steps for this project are to teach the students how to use each resource in the Calming Corner correctly - whether it is a breathing technique, squish ball, emotions chart, or journal. My hope is that students can continue to use these strategies as they get older, and that they become comfortable identifying strong emotions that they have.
Thank you again for donating to my classroom Calming Corner.”

Flexible Seating for 1st Grade Students
Funded Sep 5, 2022My students use the wooble stools daily. Some of them use it during carpet time for whole group lessons and sit in the back. The stools allow them to get their extra wiggles out, and pay attention at the same time. Other students use it while siting at their desks, and they help them to do their work and move around a little bit.
When my students first saw the wooble stools, they were very excited! They loved this alternative seating option. When other students come into the class, they also get excited and want to sit on them.
Some next steps for my classroom are to create a more inviting "Calming Corner" area where students can go to take a break or calm down if they are feeling strong emotions.
Thank you again for donating to my first grade classroom.”
