The course which I teach is an IB course using fiction and nonfiction to teach Social Studies. We utilize primary source documents to learn about History, as well as novels to explore the idea of Utopia in literature. Unfortunately, my scholars only have a class set of novels, which does not allow for them to take their novels home and read on their own time. This leads to a majority of class time being used to read the novels, instead of using that time to dig deeper and actually understand and interpret the novel and how it relates to the idea of Utopia. These novels will allow my students to have their own copy which they can read on their own time, allowing for more time in class to have meaningful discussions.
