Future Engineers
Funded Nov 23, 2022Our students enjoy working together to solve problems, especially when they get to create, build and share! While a group of 4th graders were working together to build a car, one student exclaimed, "I never thought I would be able to build this, but now I know I can!" The materials we were able to buy, with your support, will teach them the engineering and science they need, but also build their confidence.
When the packages arrived the students cheered. After explaining the process of how Donors Choose helps school get materials they need, one student shared, "When I get older and get a job, I want to buy legos and stuff for kids so they can fun and be creative."
The hydroponics set has motivated our students to want to do more indoor gardening. The students share stories of their gardening experiences with loved ones and how much joy they get out of watching things grow. Our next steps are to try and get funding for an indoor hydroponics garden tower for the science room.”

Funded Feb 28, 2022The items that were purchased, due to your generosity, has allowed us to nurture the seed of an idea that came from one student into a garden of opportunity for all current and future students. The concept supports our school motto: "A Rainbow of Possibilities" in a tangible way, by allowing students to literally dig in and plant a promising future at a time when we all need to see that light of hope.
Our students have added a vegetable bed to our garden. In the future we would love to add a hydroponics system to grow vegetables in our Science room all school year long. I have no doubt that this project has resulted in a positive outcome for all.”

Funded Aug 12, 2021Our Global Garden continues to grow and improve. With your generous donation, my students have been able to use the garden gloves to keep safe and clean while we work together in our garden. The new clipboards have allowed my students to record their observations and wondering questions. A first grader wrote, " I wonder why we did think of planting tulips? They are my moms favorite flower."
Well, after I read my students wondering question, I took out the bulbs that we were able to purchase from this project. The look on this child's face was priceless! She jumped up and down and said, "Dreams do come true!" Moments like this will be treasured by both my students and myself.
My students planted the bulbs and are excited to see them bloom in the Spring. Our plan is to invite families to join us for a Spring gathering on our garden. We are hoping to start a vegetable garden in the Spring and be able to eat what we grow.”

Funded May 4, 2021The smell of soil, birds chirping and getting dirty, has brought so much joy to the students and staff at PS63. Creating a school garden has provided our students with a calmness and excitement during an unprecedented and stressful time. A fourth grader said, "Mrs.Meyer, I feel calm and happy when I am outside gardening with my friends."
Another student said he feels at one with earth and asked if his class could be called "The Earth Squad". It has given them an opportunity to share gardening experiences that they have had when visiting their family in different parts of the world. "This reminds me of how my family and I grow rice in Bangladesh. "
We have been using the shovels, gloves, and aprons to stay safe while learning about plants and sustainability. I have had students express their gratitude each and every day they pass our garden areas. "Thank you for letting us play in the dirt and use tools." "My grandma has a shovel but she NEVER lets me use it!" At the end of the day, the tool shed has provided our supplies with a safe place to stay.
Your generosity, has provided our students with an experience that they will never forget!”

Funded Oct 28, 2019My first grade scientists were excited to see the clay on their table, as they entered the science room. After reading and learning about how plants and animals survive, they were asked to create their own model. Watching their discovery was incredible, the modeling clay gave them another way to share their knowledge with their peers. At the end of the lesson, the students thought they had to return the clay to the container for the next class. When I shared with them the clay was donated and they were able to take their models home, they started to cheer. One student said, "This is the best day ever!"
Thank you for helping my creative scientist feel successful. Your donation provided them with the materials needed and made it possible for them to not only learn, but share what they learned with their families.
My scientists will continue to use hands on activities to show and share their scientific knowledge.”

Growing Our Own Healthy Garden
Funded Aug 9, 2016Dear Donors,
My third grade students were so excited to hear about the new supplies that were donated to our class. As we opened the materials together, the look on their faces said it all. They were engaged and looking forward to exploring new things. One child said, "I didn't know that strangers would care about our learning!"
One of the first activities we did, was to grow crystals and record our observations. Their excitement elicited many questions and peeked their curiosity. They are preparing to grow their own vegetables and learning how to eat healthy. Your generosity has brought science to life for these children. It has motivated them to want to learn more. Several parents have told me that their children are requesting science kits and tools for holiday gifts. Thank you for enriching the lives of these young learners.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Meyer
